Hi all,
Im kev and new to 10mm, only got into them by painting some early romans for a friend and now iv,e got the bug. Just recieved a pack of brit AWI this week and mega impressed with the sculpting and casting, just like to say thanks Leon for the service as i struggle to get materials here in the back of beyond in Hungary.
As i have only really painted and based 6mm before does anyone have advice on basing ie size of base and figs per base, i will only be solo gaming as no clubs here so not looking for anything special , more for looks. Very much looking forward to seeing some of the painting competion entries as there is some great work on here, might even enter something myself.
Thanks,
kev
I'd say use same sized bases and reduce number of figures by one. But if you're a solo player, you have only your own taste to please, so enjoy the freedom this gives you.
And welcome to the forum; good to see you starting in the 18th century. :)
Oh, and there are certainly gamers in Vienna, so if you can overcome the traditional rebellious distaste of the Magyar for the German overlords....
(moriemur pro nostrum regem Mariam Theresam, after all - you are interested in the 18th century)
Hi Kev.
A very warm welcome to you ! :-h
I'll not offer any advice ;)......There are too many people on the forum that know FAR more than me about appropriate base sizes.
I think it depends on what rule system you're thinking of using. :-\
Cheers - Phil.
Welcome!
Hi Kev, welcome to the Forum!

Hello there Kev
Take care
Andy
Welcome on board Kev and I'm sure you will love painting Clibs wonderful AWI range 8).
Hi Kev
If it is AWI basing you are asking about, here are a couple of topics where AWI rules/basing were discussed. They may be a start.

Go 40x20mm (warmaster standard) with 8 figs in 2 ranks and you should be good for most rulesets, also has the advantage of getting a 3 base unit out of a single bag of figures.
Hi Kev!
Welcome to my other scale, and the joys of the Pendraken Board. I game in 10mm for the ECW, WSS, APW and FPW, and in 6mm for Ancients and now, it seems, Napoleonic! Both for Commands and Colors. Looking forward to seeing more of your Napoleonics, I think you will have a blast painting Clib's AWI sculpts.
Best,
Mollinary (Andrew)
Thanks for the welcome and advice chaps, i,ll put a pic on when i,ve got some based. I have only been in Hungary for 4 years, originally from lincolnshire but only 4 hours from vienna so will maybe get there one day. Hi mollinary, yes these AWI are excellent , bit out of my 6mm comfort zone to start with but i am quite pleased with them so far, it has taken me 2 days to do 20 though ;D so dont think i,ll give up my day job, but love doing them, some of the best if not the best figures i have ever seen.
Welcome Kev :-h
Hello! Have a nice stay ;)
Hello & Welcome.
Welcome to the madhouse!!! :D
Hi, Kev. Welcome to the forum.
My advice is - decide on a set of rules before basing any figures. Particularly in a period where the infantry fought shoulder-to-shoulder.
Having said that, most modern rules are fairly tolerant of base-sizes. Provided that both sides have bases of the same dimensions it's not an issue.
Anyway, good luck with the AWI. We're always interested in seeing pictures.... :)

Now you're here you can never leave.... :d
Mwhahahahahahah
Welcome Kev!

Welcome to the forum Kev...look forward to seeing your 10mm pics
all the best
Sean
Hi Kev
Yes 10mm are brilliant.
Regarding basing,I think it depends on the period you are gaming. But Chad and I tend to allow 10mmx10mm per figure and we base our figures on 30mmx20mm bases, giving 6 figures per base (3 on the front rank and 3 on the rear rank). this works well for ancients, Napoleonics, AWI, Spanish Succession, League of Augsberg.
Hope that's of some use.
welcome and Best Wishes DaveL
