Title: League of Augsburg marching pikes
Post by: fred. on 19 January 2013, 10:18:04 AM
Hi All,

Does anyone have some photos of the marching pike from the League of Augsburg, with their pikes? I can find lots of pics without pikes, but I'm not finding any with pikes.

I'm trying to put some of these together and can't work out if the pikes should be upright, at an angle, or balanced on the shoulder.

Ta

They are supposed to be balanced on the shoulder like this guy;

Though with a bit of twisting of the arm you may be able to get the pike to place the butt on the ground so it can held vertically too.

Ta Clib - thought that on the shoulder looked like it was the likely pose.

No bother. Let me know how you get on as I haven't had time to do any of these figures for myself yet.

Most of the figures went together pretty easily

But I'm not sure I have got these ones right - from the pose I think they should be holding the pike like the serjeant is holding the pike - but I can't seem to line up the left arm along the body with the hole in the right hand.

It also seems to be a bit sideways?

I don't think they should be like the standard bearer?

Hmmmm, I was a bit worried about this; it looks like the arm of that particular man has folded inwards during molding. This kind of thing happens sometimes give the high pressures involved in the process. I'll have to think about what to do to remedy this. For now you could use a blade to cut between the arm and the chest and gently "fold" the arm back out, though you might break some arms.

This pic of the original greens shows how the figure should look, he's second from the left.

Ta Clib - shame that the moulding process bent the figure.

A bit of cutting does allow the forearm to come free (I was more worried about fingers than arms) - which would allow the pike to rest on the shoulder - and the pike hides most of the area of surgery. Would work for a few figures, but wouldn't fancy trying it on too many.
