Title: 4th Prussian Cavalry Division
Post by: Duke Speedy of Leighton on 13 January 2013, 09:29:06 PM
Okay, this is an on going project, this division has seen action twice in our Camapaign, so I might as well build it, it's going to be seen a lot more action I feel!
Here's the first units,
1st & 6th Uhlans

Looks great! Keep it up!

Lately you are posting much about the FPW. As i have very limited knowledge of this period, maybe you have a few good resources on line you want to share?

Wait for Cameronian and Mollinary to chip in...
Osprey books are okay as a starter. The Prussian Army books are much more detailed than the French ones. The histories aren't bad!http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=osprey+franco+prussian+war (http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=osprey+franco+prussian+war)
David Ascoli 'A Day of Battle' http://www.amazon.co.uk/Day-Battle-Mars---Tour-August/dp/1841581216/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1358113079&sr=1-1 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Day-Battle-Mars---Tour-August/dp/1841581216/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1358113079&sr=1-1)
and Howards 'Franco-Prussian War' http://www.amazon.co.uk/Franco-Prussian-War-German-Invasion-1870-1871/dp/0246635878/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1358113134&sr=1-2 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Franco-Prussian-War-German-Invasion-1870-1871/dp/0246635878/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1358113134&sr=1-2)are a must.
Sedan by Fermer is good too. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sedan-1870-The-Eclipse-France/dp/1844157318/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1358112941&sr=8-1 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sedan-1870-The-Eclipse-France/dp/1844157318/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1358112941&sr=8-1)

I see you're doubling up the regiments on some bases. Is this because the regiments were understrength?

Ah, that....
Its because when I started this project the original orbat for volley and bayonet has cavalry based in pairs of units or threes as brigade stands. Individual units are skirmish units.
So in black powder it means doubles are full strength units and singles are small units.

It also ensures cavalry don't dominate the game.
