So, where to start? I've probably been war-gaming since before many of you were born, having started with Airfix's Infantry Combat Group and German Infantry. I currently war-game with the Norwich Rearguard and have just been introduced to Blitzkreig Commander.
I have to agree with many that 10mm seems to be the ideal scale for gaming this with a unit being a section (aka squad).
My pet hate, in virtually all rule-sets, is the assertion that one can see into a wooded area as far as one can see out. This is just so NOT TRUE, I cannot believe tha none of the writers of rules have ever taken a walk in the countryside. I could go on and on and on about this. suffice to say that when I play I try to get agreement that troops in woods can see and not be seen.
I recommend that all war-gamers should spend sometime in a re-enactment group - it gives an insight into what can (and can't) be seen in a battle.
Hi Dave - welcome. Its a nice feeling isn't it in the modern world that 10mm figures have significantly better detail on them than those 20mm infantry combat group ones - thats not to say i didnt enjoy lots of battles with them. I had a special love for the Mark 1 8th Army too
Dave, got to ask: What re-enactment have you done? (medieval & napoleonic here)
