Title: Looking to do 30YW Protestant and Catholic for FoGR
Post by: gregernest on 29 November 2012, 05:03:04 PM
Any hints on what to buy besides a basic 30YW pack to start each force?  More stuff from the ECW range perhaps?

Hi

You can use most of the ecw stuff especially the cavalry, armoured pikemen and artillery.

The stuff that i wouldn`t use are,

unarmoured pikemen

musketeers in hats and caps

the dismounted dragoons (use the advancing musketeers or cut the musket rests off the tyw musketeers).

Any more questions fire away.

Jim

I see that there are dismounted Dragoons in the ECW range.  Do these come with dismounted horses?  If not, what SKU # are those?

I'm pretty sure its just the dragoons on foot and no horses

but have been known to be wrong :o :o ;D

I'm sure Leon will be along soon to answer your question!

The dismounted Dragoons are only foot figures.  For horses, we could supply some of the regular artillery/limber types, or possibly some of the standing horses we use in the 19th C. ranges, codes AU20 or ACW35?

Thanks, gents!

Seeing as I'm here in the Colonies, I need to build up a bit more of a list before putting in an order.

Anyone have a good reference for colors to use for German Protestant forces?

Osprey has a book on the Catholic side of this conflict, but I'm coming up rather short on the other side of the war.

Hey, looking forward to seeing your army take shape!

You can find a document I found to be VERY helpful with that kind of stuff here: http://www.library.vexillia.ltd.uk/uniforms/Uniforms30YW.pdf (http://www.library.vexillia.ltd.uk/uniforms/Uniforms30YW.pdf)

It's scary how much useful info you can find in there but it looks really well researched and I refer to it a lot. Still, no definates but then colours are a tricky thing in TYW wargaming. ;)
