Post by: Gran76 on 16 November 2012, 12:45:34 PM
Having spent the last 10 minutes reading a post on TMP about are these rules, are they too complex?, the discussion bogged down with  reactions etc.. then the last post i read summed up everything i was thinking. Posted by Ianrs54. Well said and straight to the point!

A link would be useful to the discussion. We tried FoF but gave up for a whole host of reasons.

I really really wanted to like FoF and we had  afew games of Ambush Alley and FoF and they all got bogged down and we eventually all admitted we just didnt like them. Shame as what they were trying to do was a good idea. TBH I much prefer the sci fi game Infinity's take on reactions. A similar idea implemented much better.

PS anyone want to buy Force on Force and the Road to Baghdad? Its ace honest!  :D

Master Ian San is saying 'less is more!' And he's right, ofcourse.

Try selling them at the Warfare or Reveille B'n'B Chris.

Ive got loads of things I need to sell, but I considered Warfare B&B but tbh I dont plan on hanging about all day there so it doesnt seem worth my while putting them on the B&B for a couple of hours.

Indeed.  I played TW with everything thrown in on the first game.  It become unplayably complex as a result.  Haven't picked it up since.  We do like FoF though.

I played it.

Just horrendously written. You need to go to the forum to understand how this works.
Kind of interesting though.
Clearly written with 15 mm in mind, a bit expensive in 28mm (but Empress miniatures are gorgeous!)

I don't like the stress on every unit, too much test and bookkeeping for every fire-team you have.

I play The Battlefield : miniature modern warfare now, more fun.

To be fair though i think it was developed to play assymetric warfare, where one side (the 'good guys') has perhaps 8-10 men and the 'bad guys' feed in targets and bullet catchers ('insurgents').

So i'm not sure it was ever designed for two full regular forces to match up.

I could be wrong though.

That said, TW is appaulingly written to the point where we were relying on how we understood FOF works to try and make sense of TW.  Hehe..

We played it with 4 players...2 Americans with 4 fire-teams each.

The Taliban players had a little more.
