Title: Modern British Armour
Post by: whiteoak on 02 November 2012, 12:11:03 AM
Now that the Falklands British are available with Helmets - I've been looking out for modern British armour

I've come across - http://www.pg-models.com/range.aspx - pricey but look very good
Has anybody used them ?

Thanks

Kelvin

Hi Whiteoak
haven't got them but they are as you say expensive. I think Minifigs are the way I'll be going for stuff Pendraken are not going to release.

There's also the centurion, which can be used from the 50s to the 90s, (I think we were still using the avre version in desert storm)

Hi Everyone

I am waiting for the first spin offs from Leon and Dave and will be doing the CVR(t) family for them also early scorpion and scimitar and later versions with extra stowage, the only one on the list i have left to do apart from variants with the landrovers is the Mercedes g wagon the centurion turret is 90% complete and when finished will be usable from Mk3 to 13 as you will see when I put some pictures up, the T54/55 turret is 90% finished and if Leon and dave want i will do the later versions with extra armour hope this helps and if there is any thing else you would like feel free to contact

Regards
Martin

Martin

Thanks for the update .....if we are starting a new wish list then

Warrior Mechanised Combat Vehicle and the FV432 Armoured Personnel carrier must be somewhere near the top
and of course BTR80s its a slippery slope

I would love to do the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan in 10mm - yes I know there is the 12mm minifigs stuff - but from the photos it doesn't look very 'crisp and well detailed'

Best regards

Kelvin

With the Afghans here (mix of MF & Pendraken):

Hello Nik,

Any chance of you putting up the codes for the figures you have used?

Crikey! Now you're asking...these are about 4 years old  :D

I reckon, from memory, these Mujahideen have got these from Pendraken:
NW4 Afghan tribesmen pose 1
NW5 Afghan tribesmen pose 2
NW6 Afghan tribesmen command
NW7 Afghan irregulat cavalry
NW11 Pack mule team with mountain gun
NW12 Pack mule team with maxim gun
SC13 Arab civilians

Not huge amounts of them - but interspersed with the MF ones they look great I think  8)

Thanks for that, top man!

Have to say, as a lurker on a few forums, that all your stuff is very inspiring.

You have a natural talent for what you produce, and a great eye for detail.

Having seen how many posts you make on several boards, 1,000's of em 8)

I don't know where you get the time, to post, paint and base figures by the 100's, game and do reports, hold down a job, keep the children entertained, and keep the wife happy ;)

Very nice figures Nik
so all you need now are a couple of Masstifs a Jackal or 2 and some up armoured Scimitars not the new Scimitar2(based on a modified spartan hull looks cheap and you lose the fact that a normal scimitar is only 6ft 11in to the top of the commanders sight) but thats defence cuts lets just hope we do not have to fight any one with a lot of heavy armour eg:France and Germany

Thanks Martin - you're right, I'd love some ultra-moderns to be able to scrap the Tali in 10mm...a bit like these of mine in 28mm, but smaller please:

Hi Nik

Have you read Cauldron by Larry Bond? I will have to get rid of my 15mm modern first only got 20 T64's about the same number of BMP1 and 10 BTR 60pb's not to mention a Danish battle group with Centurions and M41's and a lot of landrovers and enough 1/100th aircraft to sink a small Aircraft carrier,
The wimmic is in the deal with Lomg wheel base Landrover's just waiting the masters back but the centurion and T54/55 will look impressive when done i will post some pictures shortly

Martin

Nik, I didn't realise you did 28mm as well - I've just put all of my 28mm modern on Ebay (trading name whiteoakmodels)  - as I'm moving away from skirmish towards a more tactical command & control style of game which I believe 10mm is better suited to.

I'd be interested in the list thoughts on good modern asymetric COIN warfare rules suitable for 10mm

Yeah - I game in 2mm, 3mm, [sold all my 6mm], 10mm & 28mm...it's pretty much everything except 15mm - can't stand 15mm  ;) :d

Ambush Alley / Force on Force is your friend for asymmetric really - or, if you like CWC, feel free to have a look at the skirmish variant I did (with lists for the forces above) - here: http://nikharwood.pbworks.com/w/page/7825442/CWC%20Skirmish

Thanks for the codes earlier.

Have you ever shared the CWC skirmish variant rules? Or is it FWC skirmish rules with your army lists?

No worries  :)

Yep - those lists are workable both with FWC skirmish variant rule - but also, to be honest, you can probably just drop 'em into CWC with a slight adjustment of thinking & they'll be fine...

I couldn't tell you at the moment I'm afraid, lots of stuff to do at this end, and we need to check everything over before they go to production moulds.  We'll see what we can get done.

There's a list of the vehicles on the schedule here: http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,11175.0.html (http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,11175.0.html)  We've not planned any infantry at this stage, as they're a lot easier/quicker to get done than the armour.
