Title: Archer armor help!
Post by: Uesugi Kenshin on 10 May 2010, 09:34:51 PM
I painted up a couple of the minis pictured below for WotR retinue archers. I had a tough time figuring out what the body armor covering the chest is however! Any clarification would be appreciated:

In the WotR Osprey (yes, I know, but it is what I have) there is an illustration of a soldier with mail sleeves and a brigantine, with a plate component across the soft part of the stomach.  Clearly, someone who knows about peritonitis and does not want to die from it.

Absent a post from the designer, I would interpret it that way.

I agree.  Looks like mail under some sort of plate from the photo.

It's called a plackart. It's an item of plate armour quite popular in the 15th century, like a half-breastplate that covers the lower abdomen. Ideal for archers as it does not restrict arm movement in the way a conventional breatplate would. Usually worn over mail or a quilted jack (or both).
