Surely it can be any period you want to game in? - Napoleonics - does not have to be completely historical: for example you can have armies
composed of mixtures of French/Austrian/Prussian versus English and American allies who both happen to be in 1776 uniforms - and so on.

Me? - I am playing Maurice rules using my Napoleonic painted armies but using the Maurice period linear tactics ( and I rebased to suit Maurice too) - amongst many other things I am playing or planning to play :)

The Amercian Civil War could easily have had intervention from France and Britain - using Crimea troops or Franco-Prussian War additions.

True, I have had imagi-nations using my old 28mm Napoleonic armies, based on three nations using British, Saxon and French and the same nations fought using WWII troops.

This time I want to introduce some small fictional German states and paint the troops just for these states rather than change the flags, so thought around 1750's - 1800's would give me some nice uniforms.

European uniforms changed quite drastically between 1750 and 1800. You'd do better to settle on a specific date.  :)

Here's what I've been up to

The SYW + FIW ranges together offer tremendous variety.

I have a few Imagination troops in 28mm for two fictional Germanic states. Plenty of scope for colorful uniforms and gear, in an era predating all that nasty nationalism.  ;)

As it happens, when funds become available, I'm going to shift from 28mm to 10mm.

I did have a great German book covering maps since the beginning of civilisation, the map of Germany from late 1600 to mid 1700's was just thousands of small city type states.  I think is still in the UK in my Mums loft :)

So I'm edging towards SYW, plus I'm moving from 28mm to 10mm, so cost is no longer an excuse for me not to to move create my own uniforms and I can away from the usual Prussia, Austrian, French, British painted figures.

Lentulus, yes I've looked at your posts on the forum, so thanks for the information :)  I'll be modelling two armies at first and playing solo.
