Title: War in the East - Russian Turkish War 1877
Post by: whiteoak on 05 August 2012, 09:48:32 AM
My birthday was in October - I've just received my Birthday present - it was well worth the wait.
I've received the book  War in the East by Quintin Barry - published by Helion. If you read The|Road to Koniggratz or his two volume set on the France Prussian war - you will know that he writes very well and the there are numerous scenarios just waiting to be played. 500 pages - £45.00 very good value - and for the month of August Helion are offering 10% off everything in there catalogue. I've only dipped into the book but it looks to very good - lots of maps / illustrations (some in colour).

Pendraken do a range of figures for this conflict - are there any photographs online of the figures?
I expect I'll need a village ...can anybody suggest suitable buildings - I like the Timecast range.

Thanks

Does your wallet like the Timecast range? if so, I'd go for it.  ;)

Cheers,

The war was fought mainly in Bulgaria (apart from the eastern theatre which was a bit of a side-show) and I doubt the countryside there has changed greatly since 1877. Try some of the guide-books, looking out for quaint old-fashioned villages.

There were some painted pics posted up some time last year if memory serves, I'll see if I can find them.  Actually there may have been some in the 2011 Painting Comp...  :-\
