Title: Hi from Wellington, New Zealand
Post by: far4ngn on 31 July 2012, 07:36:58 AM
Hi guys

Originally from Billingham, Cleveland in the North East of England...not far from Pendraken HQ, but left for Singapore for a few years and now in NZ.  I'm looking to get back onto Wargaming...busy selling all my old stuff :)  So thought I'd join up as I've never used 10mm before and have everything else since.

I'm looking for a suitable period to play but like AWI and 1812, so will probably dabble in this era first.

Any help for a returning gamer would be much appreciated.

Cheers
Paul

Hello!
AWI are beautiful, and you don't need too many per side!

That's good news...I ordered my first pack of AWI American Militia a week ago, so thought I'd get the rag tag units out of the way whilst I remember how to paint.

I have Age or Reason, Washington's wars and just bought British Grenadier, so will need to find a suitable basing method to suit these rules....plus at this scale I may start an Imagi-nation or start a totally new period that I've never experienced before.  Don't thinkwe have many 10mm gamers over here, so will need to look into solo gaming options.

Hi there!

The 10mm AWI militia is quite stunning btw, I liked painting mine, and with the large number of poses you will get that rag-tag look for your units.

It's been forty years since I was last in Auckland. It's probably changed a bit since then.

wind or no wind I would much rather be in NZ - anywhere - than in Billingham!

well done on finding the best scale to use in your come-back - I re-started in 28mm - BIG mistake :)

so, hello and welcome and ask away - lots of help and support on this forum!

Hi Paul, welcome to the Forum!

Incidentally, my brother-in-law used to work in Billingham, and now lives in New Zealand, so kinda similar... ish...  :D

Welcome! I got my first 10mm a few weeks ago, and seriously wish I'd chosen the scale earlier. It'll be a nice way back into gaming for you.  :)

Always windy here in Wellington, but I still prefer it over Auckland...however I'm there every two weeks anyway.

Billingham was a great place to work if your working on industrial/chemical sites :)

Nothing wrong with Billingham... in all honesty all the family live in Wolviston.

Plus Wellington is beautiful on a nice day.

Hi Paul,

I think 10mm is a great way to (re)start wargaming. I took up wargaming again two years ago, after a pause of almost thirty years, and since my first Pendraken order I have never looked back. You'll be surprised by the quality of some of the new ranges such as the AWI or LoA. And you'll find all the advice you need from the veterans on this forum.

Cheers,
Aart
