Title: Using 10mms for 15mm FOGN
Post by: Nigelemsen on 22 July 2012, 09:40:07 PM
Having been introduced to 10mms: here is my first use for the new and upcoming FOGN 15mm game. The use of 10mms gives a really good feel to units looking more like a block unit. In FOGN a unit is either 6 bases or 4 bases depending on the unit size. A unit is about a regiment.

Empress dragoons are next.

No doubt about it, 6 10mm does look better than 3 15s, and to be honest the new 1809 range has more detail that a lot of 15mm figures.

The fig range is the new 1809s.

Basing was done by:
Pva /gravel. Once dry. Washed with burnt amber ink. Then edges in snakebite brown. 1st dry brush in snakebite brown.
2nd dry brush in dark sand/lightened brown.

Once completely dry. Whole fig and base washed in acrylic walnut/satin floor varnish and left to dry.

Then green static grass added. Dry brush in bright yellow and light dry brush in orange to lift blandness of grass.

Overall figs where painted by:
White satin/Matt spray. Block main areas of color using inks. Equipment etc painted normally but lighter than final finish due to floor varnish added at end.

Purple ink used to shade red. Grey used to height blacks.

Horses: white under coat. Brown ink blended with browns/greys to give a range of horse colors. Tails/mains: dry brushed light brown. Socks and faces white. Sealed with walnut satin floor varnish.

Hope useful. Being small figs and enmassed on a base. My tip is to pick one or two contrasts and extendusate.

He's got the guard infantry done now, he did point out the Chasseuars A Pied's plumes are wrong and has sorted them!

Epulettes should be green/red, but can not sneak a brush in, so will be staying red fans.

Only 1x unit of Dutch lancers, 1x unit of chasseurs au cheval, 1x unit of portuguese line chasseurs au cheval, 1x French line lancers, 1x foot battery, 1x horse battery, generals and a baggage camp before bedtime thurs. in time for Britcon Friday.

Oh and do my day time job :)

Better not throw too many 3s in the FOGN this weekends:)

Dutch lancers up. Will need to work on bases in the near future, no "brown" static grass.

It's easy.... No sleep, painting corner that is out of way of wife.... Oh burning all banked smartie points as left to paint, avoiding cooking, washing up and children bedtime duties :)

Ps: final generic line chasseurs Cheval unit on final dry off ready for error correction and basing tomorrow :)
