I have put together a mid-20th Century "Jungle Rangers" force based on a mixture of French Indo-Chinese and WW2 US Marine figures. The force was originally designed to take on a force of Pendraken's excellent "Giant Worms" using the Future War Commander rule set. (Think Predators meets Tremors) I still intend to use them for that purpose.
But for no particular reason I'm thinking it might be fun to use them as a Government force to take on a Revolutionary force somewhere in the jungles of Latin America. So the question is - if you were putting together a Latin American Revolutionary army for jungle combat in say the mid-50s to late 60s (so no AK47s) what figures would you use? Some of the SCW figures look like they would be a good place to start but other ideas gratefully received.

Try NVA and some of the Russians.

Think Cuba 1958-61 for your google-fu, think you'd be looking at peaked caps, SKS carbines, M1 carbines, bolt-action rifles, BARs, obscure mid-1930s Madsen LMGs.
Hi Dave
You will find that 90% of our South american friends where kitted out by the go old USA after all they had a shed load of stuff to flog of cheap after WW2 also you can have British Troops in Belize and British Hounduras? I think, The Argentine airforce after ww2 was put together by Adolf Galand the German Ace. If you need any help with what equipment they had I have list for the 70's.80,s
regards Matin
Argentina had Firefly's and M4's, Charioteers?
Brazil M4's and Stuart mk'6 , M8 Greyhounds
Chile same
Hi Dave
Last year I put together a late 1950s "generic" insurgent force using Pendraken. I used any DAK in field cap - filed the crown down to resemble a Walker or softer version, the BR55-57
British Bush hat trio and the BR107 commandos - British Paras in beret also filled a few gaps. If you ask Leon nicely he will extract the DAK that are in cap.
There are now a selection of US marines in bush hat that can also be blended in.
Happy gaming

In the process of two 1930's Latin American forces. I think its a bit easier in the 30's using mostly SCW and WWI figures. Some of the SCW malitia may work for you. Pictures on my blog:

I agree, but it does not help Dave when he has one battle group good to go. As Ian has said there are a few in the Vietnam- Indo China range that can blend with a paint job.
When the Falklands range is available I will be pitching them against the French paras.
But it would be good to have some 10mm insurgent types, soft Castro caps, AK47s etc.
Wishful Sunray.
I ended up ordering a range of stuff from SCW, WW2 and Vietnam ranges with an emphasis on berets and broad brimmed hats of various sorts.
I'm sure it will look fine on the table.
Thanks for the help.

Not picking on Sunray, but for a 20th century insurgency in North America remember that Che recommended using the enemies' weapons because in general it is easier to liberate ammunition than to get supply any other way.
By the 80s, this was old news and AKs seemed common enough in the news footage I remember, but for the 50s you want more conventional rifles (and other US war surplus kit). Personally, my favorite of the above suggestions is the DAK figures. Dynamic poses, reasonable hot weather dress, soft caps, MG crew not attached so transferable to a US weapon.
Nice blog there lekw.
Agreed. My wishful thinking was a longstanding request for Cuban style infantry in cap and AK....to pitch against the Falkland Brits . Yes, I used to game Peter Pig 15mm and I liked the freedom of the AK47 African scenarios. I even based some 10mm in AK47 rule mode as opposed to CWC/BKC which is my norm. Must say the 10mm gave a bit more cover than in 15mm. There is something satisifing about taking out a T55 with a Panhard 90 A/C or a 105mm RR on a jeep......counting the days until Pendraken Landrovers in short and long wheel base arrive to be gunned up with .50 , 7.62 MGs and a host of RRs.
Anyway, Dave has got sorted and can game on. Forum fit for purpose.

It might be useful to look at AH1 and AH2 in the WW1 range. Again the Alpine field cap can have the crown gently filed down, and you are left with insurgent with bold action rifle.
Some day I will get my AK47 rebel range in 10mm !

If you cut down the 'banana' magazine on an AK47 you get a good AKS lookalike which pushes the era of the miniature backwards a good few years!
