Post by: Nav on 09 July 2012, 12:58:55 AM
with the 10% dicount coming up in just  about a week im getting my order all ready for ordering and I would like to know which vallejo model color is best for AWI redcoats, scarlet or bermiilon and which one or others would you use, I would like to know because I have bermillon and was wondering if scarlet would lbe a better choice for painting  my british army pack which will be primed black. ~X(

I use three colours for my Brits, Foundry Scarlet shade(red brown), then Vallejo vermillion and then highlight with Vallejo Scarlet. If you are doing fewer layers then the scarlet on its own might be a bit too orangey. Actually British uniforms in this period were not the bright red and scarlet that we see today (see this link http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=179630 (http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=179630) ).

The original colour is a bright red, and it faded to an almost orange colour. 50/50 Scarlet/Orange works well. Officers would normally be a redder colour, as they could buy better material.
