This thread here (http://"http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,5417.0.html") presents the terrain portions of my current sci-fi "kitchen sink" skirmish game. I figured this was the appropriate place to post the figures for the game. The first ones I have completed are the !predator aliens. They've got an odd monochrome paintjob, but once you see them on the table, you'll understand why I painted them that way.
Matching their color to the table color helps them look like they've activated their chameleon suits.
I'll post more pictures as I get them painted up.
Very cool. Looking forward to more pictures.
Clever, I like :) 8)
Neat idea Warren, it works very well 8)

Really like this idea!
Just great. 8)

Thank you all. I'm tweaking a quick and dirty set of rules suitable for participation games at the moment. Something fast playing that fits on one side of a 4-inch by 6-inch cheat sheet. Very beer and pretzels.
Also working on those aliens, but first how about some marines?

See the shoulder insignia? Corporate army - corporate logo.
Very very nice!
My money's on the preds...
Civilians - are these reinforcements or liabilities?

Nice terrain and figures, like what you have done with the aliens, we where talking about this at a club game last week and someone remebered seeing predator style aliens cast in clear resin, now that would look cool (leon)

Might be tricky getting them done in 10mm...! I have seen the 28's, but I can't remember who did them though.
Love the civilians.
hat are you basing your figures on?

The bases are #10 steel washers. I store them in plastic cases lined with magnetic paper to keep them from sliding around during transport.
Thank you
Lovely mins there and a great idea for the cloaked predators!
Have you painted up any uncloaked?

Not yet. I'm still tinkering with my rules, so not sure if I'll even need any. If I do want some decloaked, they're cheap enough, I'll just add a pack to my next order.

Originally 'Ainsty Castings' .... not sure if they are still available.
Cheers,

Thanks Squirrel, been trying to remember where I got mine from all weekend!
Alien time. I painted mine green:
Queens, too:
Tried a different technique where I started with a bright green and drybrushed up in darker colors to try and give these bad boys an 'interior glow' kind of look. I don't think it worked very well. These sculpts are a little too detailed, and the proportions so alien that they look like green blobs on the table. I recommend anyone looking to paint these up would do well to paint the bodies in one color and the limbs in a contrasting color - that would help sell them as strange bipeds.
And here's a scale comparison of painted aliens with a painted marine.
I can see what you were trying to achieve Warren....But you're right...Don't think it quite worked.
A thin black wash might just work perhaps ?....If you don't mind repainting the bases.....It's bound to flow to the bases if you do a wash.
Just a thought.
Cheers - Phil
They look OK to me, but I can see what you mean. It could be the way that kind of affect tricks the eye more than the colour scheme though, and throws them off a bit? As Phil, just said, a basic wash can look great on these, there were some purple ones knocking about somewhere I think.
8)
That's not a bad idea. I'll try a test wash on one figure and see how it works out. (Probably should have tested the dark on bright technique on a single figure first - not like they're so expensive I can't afford to lose one if it doesn't work out.)
So...I took Leon's advice, and this looks way better to me:

Yep - those are much better - very coolio 8)

The Black Wash - was that the 42nd Space Marines?
Depends whether they overtook the 43rd Space Marines?
That wash has worked ! 8)
Cheers - Phil.
I agree, the wash certainly helped. They look good! :)
Ever wonder what those "Minotaurs with heavy weapons" look like? Wonder no more:

For scale, that's a human marine in between the big guys.

Cool! Great figures and nice painting. 8)
Thanks for the photos - I had been wondering :D
They painted up very well.
Cheers,
Kev
I'm not entirely sure why some of the sci-fi lizardmen with laser weapons are wearing pants and some are not, but they all look pretty cool regardless. I tried painting their guns dark red for contrast, but the guns just faded into the background of my terrain boards, so I brightened them up with silver, then took out the flash with a coat of Devlan Mud.

Leon you SERIOUSLY have to get the photos of your stuff done and on the web. What other little gems like these are languishing in your catalogue?!?
;D

Still want to see Lizardman on skateboard!

What's this then? I might have to pick up a pack just for giggles. What's the product number on that?
AC18 Lizard Boy on a skate board.
May just have to order one for Colours to see what it is!
Excellent, really nice!

That is SO going into my order for Colours!
No idea where I'll ever use him, but has to be bought along with the 'Legendary Tribble in Puklehaube, the Hell's Angel Lurker' oh, just ask Techno, he'll explain...

Sounds even more intriguing now! Probably worth it's own thread to keep this one on-toppic for Warren! ;)
I wouldn't get too excited Meirion ! ;D
I have my doubts as to whether Leon would actually want to waste a part of a mould in pressing it.
It's only legendary 'cos Lemmey's the only one that's seen it. ;)
If you've still got the pic Lemmey....You have my permission to embarrass me by posting the photo ! :P

SF28, for those who've always wondered what the mounted lizards with lazers look like:
The colors should jive with my terrain pretty well. Gray rocks for the gray mounts to have evolved to hide in, and blue lizards that evolved among the blue plants of the red planet. Bigger shots of these are available on my blog: http://warinabox.blogspot.com/2012/08/empty-queue.html (http://warinabox.blogspot.com/2012/08/empty-queue.html)
Just realised - in amongst the thread-jacking - forgot to say fantastic work :-[ =D>
Wow - those are really great Mounted Lizzies!
(Sorry about the jacking, probably my fault)
No worries, guys. The asides are half the fun of these threads, after all. Besides, these mounted boys are the last ones in my queue, so I won't have much to add to it myself. At least until the next shipment arrives in a few weeks...

Shipment in, painting done (on part of it). That means it's showtime:
SF3 - Marines with heavy weapons:
Cheated a bit on this one. These are British snipers from the Modern/Falklands line:
The gillie suits are universal, and the wrappings on the gun mean they could be any sort of rifle - energy, plasma, whatever. They're sci-fi now.
And I fixed up the armored Marines a bit, too. To help identification, I painted the faceplates bright green and put big red logos on the shoulder pads. This way, when you're looking down on the table, it's easier to tell tell how much armor they have.
Looks like I'm going to be running Tomorrow's War, so there are game differences between guys in light armor and guys in medium armor. The green means medium armor on my table.
Great stuff! Heavy weapond and armoured troopers really look low down and industrial!
Would the snipers benifit from being more 'blended in' ie 'pinker'? The military camo stands out a bit (not like they can hide from yoyre predetors anyway).
Excellent, especially the new heavy weapons, Techno did a cracking job on those so it's nice to see them brought to life!
:-bd
I really do have to get a new brain. :'(
I'd forgotten all about those ! :-[
Great work 'Warren'. :-bd
Cheers - Phil.

Yeah, I thought about just painting them in the ground colors. With the unique shape of the figs, you'd still be able to tell what they are, but I've already done that trick with the !Predators. Also, I figure it's a military outfit - the guys in logistics gave them the regulation black uniforms, and the snipers were like, "Uh, how'ma gonna blend into red dirt in this?" Some things never change, you know?

They weren't what I was expecting. The refurbished of the line has caught me off guard a couple of times, but I really do like them. For those who don't know, the turrets come separate from the gunners - I just glued them together on a base like that. The turrets would work just fine as stand-alone automatic gun towers.
