Here's my first stab at adding some French to the 1914 collection. As with my BEF and Germans they're based for Horse Foot and Guns (Phil Barker's rules) and so this lot represents most of Sordet's cavalry corps, with each cavalry element being a brigade. The infantry are painted to represent chasseurs a pied (boringly with no red trouders) and the arty element the combines guns of the corps.

The cuirassiers are set F10 with the addition of epaulettes from green stuff; as I understand it, epaulettes were suppressed at some point but I wanted to depect very early war cuirassiers and I think they were still worn at that point. Either way, easy to add.

Some dragoons from set F11. Probably they should have lances but not that fussed (less to damage in handling). The figure third from the right is actually the officer from F10 (cuirassiers) converted to a dragoon just for fun. The officer from the F11 set (figure in the middle) wears a cape.

And the infantry (F1) and artillery, the legendary soixante-quinze (F6)

Now working on a command element and waiting for a new delivery from Pendraken to make up some hussars and chasseurs a cheval. My (limited) references suggest that at least one, if not both, of the chasseurs a cheval regts in Sordet's corps wore the new dragoon-style helment at the start of the War so they may be a straight repaint from the dragoons. Some head swapping needed for the hussars, though. Hope they're of interest.
Really nice work, look superb! Love the detail of research too.

Excellent job ! :-bd
Cheers - Phil
Well done and nicely put together.

Maybe a little watered down black ink on the currassier blades, just to tone them down a little? Otherwise v cool!
Very nice work
Very nice! 8)
Excellent - these are great; I've wanted to do early WW1 for a while...and you're helping me bump this up the project list 8)

Good suggestion and thank you. They didn't look quite so chrome-plated in the flesh but now followed your advice and they blend in much better.
And many thanks to all for the very kind comments. It really helps keep morale up when you're sorting out piles of figures for prep and basing!
Excellent looking figures and will provide a guide when I start painting up my early war stuff
Very nice and colorful (unfortunately so in 1914)!
These are very nice. Can't wait for some infantry.
Nice figures. Also nice to see the early war portrayed. :)
really great and inspiring work! As good as it gets for 10mm Ww1.
Many thanks all. Infantry painting now underway; photos in due course.
Been rather sidetracked but finally got some French line infantry done along with a command group. Here's the whole mob, as before based for HFG so there's a division's worth of infantry here:

Here is a close up of an infantry element. The figures are from F1 (there are three poses, officer, soldier firing and soldier advancing). In one of the elements in the mass shot I used the officer from the artillery set F6 to ring the changes. (He's the figure right at the back in the middle standing upright).

Also made up a command element designed to represent a cavalry command group. The two foot figures are the poses from F16 (High Command). The mounted figure on the left in pale blue is a conversion from the mounted officer in the British Cavalry set BP5. Adjusted the arm pose, converted his hat into a schako-like thing and made some minor changes to the saddlery/horse furniture. He is supposed to represent a hussar officer. The other mounted figure is the officer from the French Dragoon set F11. He has had his right arm removed and replaced in a more relaxed pose using green stuff but is otherwise just a dragoon in a riding coat. The foot figure in the side cap is painted to represent a cuirassier officer without cuirass.

I've included the figure codes to make it easier for anyone searching to find the photos if they want to check out the poses. Hope they're of interest.
Eye candy - and very handy!
Really lovely! Allez le Bleu!
Shouldn't that be "Allez les Bleus"? :-\
Er....Oui, Ray !! ;)
Can't believe the footy season is about to start again.
Cheers - Phil.
Thought it was singular, like the team? Anyway, let it not detract from some rather spiffing quality troops!
Very nice 8)
I'd go for les Bleus personally but either way, thanks for the kid comments all.
