The half a pence coin for single mounted figure basing :D
Hi Nosher.
Are you old enough to remember when you got either 4 'black jacks'...or four 'fruit salads' for one 'old penny' ?
Basically....they were a farthing each.
For the kiddies amongst you...This was in the days when there were 240 'old' pence in a pound (sterling)
2 x farthings = 1 halfpenny.
2 x halfpennies = 1 (old) pence.
3 (old) pence = 1 'thruppeny' bit.
6 (old) pence = A sixpence (also known as a 'tanner')
2 sixpences = A shilling (12 old pence.....Now known as 5p.....formally one 'bob')
2 shillings = A florin (a two 'bob' bit.....Now 10p)
There were also 'half crowns'......Two shillings and six pence...equivalent to 12 and a half new pence nowadays.
Crowns....Five shillings....(Though those weren't really much in circulation for spending.).....Equivalent to 25 new pence.
10 shilling notes (A fortune when you were young.).....Now a 50 pence piece.
2 x 10 shilling notes......A pound ....Now 100 new pence.
Oh...happy days ! ;D ;D ;D ;D (One pound would buy you 3 GALLONS of petrol/gas.....Yes...I know....you could have bought a house for a few hundred pounds in those days......Gosh...things have changed !!)
Gran !!....Is that a half 'pee'.....or the old half 'dee'. ;D ;D
Cheers - A very old f*rt.
I miss the hundreds of hours I have spent painting figures only to go off that scale or those rules or the other period and then consequently sell them all at bring & buy or now evil bay.
I miss not having got into 10 mm years ago in other words!
I miss not discovering the Warmaster family of rules leading to BKC etc
I do not miss the headaches I got playing WRG Ancients 7th Edition or trying to remember what was in a stack of counters in any board game that allowed stacks - all sold off. I do not miss trying to pick up a stack and knocking all the adjacent stacks over :)
When I was jsut starting out in wargaming we used to get the bus to East Ham to vist the wargames shop "New Model Army". It was a bit dingy but you could buy 10 6mm Heroics and Ros tanks for £1.00. (mid 1970's)
Oh and when I started work I used to spend many a lunch hour in Gamers in Exile in the Pentonvile Road talking to Peter O'Toole. and looking round the shop (mid-late 1980's).
Yeah, I visited New Model Army a few times (although it was a hell of a journey by public transport from Crouch End where I then lived) The places I really miss are Adventure Worlds - run by the inimitable Dave Rotor - in Victoria and Mike's Models in Finchley. Mike used to send us down to Southampton to pick up batches of Minifigs on the promise that we'd get our figures cheap. =)
I miss the miss before she became the mrs ;D
I miss having the time to paint and play games as I like. But the down side of that time was that I didn't have the money to buy the figures and games that I liked and now I do. :D hum . . .

I miss...
- penny sweets actually being a penny.
- the six-week summer holidays feeling like six years.
- having less TV channels (I love my Sky, but there's about 400 channels which no-one needs).
- being able to go and play out at the age of 8 without the media telling us someone was going to kidnap me.
- marvelling at the technological jump which was CD's (substitute 'CD' for 'cassette tape' or 'LP' depending on age... ;D ).
- basic 2D computer games, like Frogger or Alien Invasion.
:-\

oooooooooohhhhhhhh that was below the belt!! ;D
I must admit, I don't do football, just international matches, but last night reminds me of why I dont :'( ;D
What I miss most is not having responsibility for happiness of wife, kids, etc. Love them, would not give them up, but only having my own well being to screw up was a lot easier.
