Well I've finished a few dismounted Union Cavalry and a handful of NCOs. I really enjoyed what I was doing. It has been at least a year since I last painted anything and thefirst time painting in this scale. I have to say I really liked it.
I am concerned about the quality of what I attempted and if my colors are correct, especially for the scabbard of all things. LOL I also attempted highlights but again not sure if the highlight is bright enough for the scale. Photographs were taken outside but I still used flash.

Very nice too, Duane. As you've probably found, the shading needs to be exagerated to stand out. I'm impressed by the piping on the shell-jackets though. First class. 8)

Thanks for the comments guys and the support. I have already found a few more little details I want to add like the brass button on the kepi and maybe gun metal to the muskets. My problem is I could tweak them all day. :) But also I don't know the uniforms well enough to know what I am doing so I easily over look things. My forte has always been WWII in 20mm. LOL
Sam, I'm not sure about rules. I decided to do put together a couple of First Day of Gettysburg battles with Buford's Cavalry. I ordered an issue of the Charge and Crossed Sabers that each had a different scenario in them to help with the number of troops/stands. I also ordered Gettysburg Soldier for rules since I will most likely run these scenarios at Recruits (in the Fall I hope) www.Recruits-con.com (http://www.Recruits-con.com) but I am open to suggestions. Some folks in the Kansas City Area run Fire and Fury. But what ever I decide my next big question will be basing size. sigh!

I know 'US Cav' troopers (ie pre war regular army) may have a leg stripe, not sure about Union troopers, but who cares, these are amazing!

I do have leg stripes on the NCOs just the yellow gets washed out on that sky blue. I was thinking I might need to line the stripe on one side with a darker blue but maybe I just need a darker yellow? I read some where that about 30% head the stripes. I did paint one riflemen with a stripe but it doesn't show at all.

A solution to your stripe problem might be to go for a somewhat darker sky blue. At present you are perhaps at the washed out end of the spectrum, and a darker base might give you more chance for highlighting, and the chance to provide a darker base for the stripe. Perhaps worth an experiment?

I have 7 kids in my ACW wargaming class this week and they are painting up their armies so we can play on Thursday and Friday. I dont know if they will make it but they sure are trying hard. Today was the first day of painting, yesterday was history, cleaning and priming the figures. We use DBACW for the rules. They are quick and easy to learn especially for eleven year olds! As a bonus the armies are only between 80 - 110 figures each and the battle is over in about an hour. Just what I need for kids to learn to play wargames and paint up an army :D So I can crush them later when we play at our local hobby store :d muuuhaha. . .
I need more gamers in my area so I create young ones :d :d =P~
