Title: Visiting Windsor Castle
Post by: kustenjaeger on 16 June 2012, 10:01:03 AM
Greetings

Many years ago one of my colleagues went round Windsor Castle one weekend.  Windsor is about 9 miles from London's Heathrow airport.  On the Monday he told us that he had been walking behind two American ladies of middle years when one of whom said to the other:

"Gee, this is a real neat castle, but why did they build it so close to the airport?"

Regards

Edward

I've heard similar about Stirling Castle which is up on a high volcanic spur, though from a lazier american family, "Why didn't they build it closer to the train station?" and "Why did they build it so high up?"

The other fantastic one I heard from an American on the train one time coming out of London. "I didn't expect there to be so much countryside!" I have the feeling they thought 'The quaint English countryside' was a thempark outside of London.

Small child to father (British) in Trafalgar square "Who is that on top of the column, Dad?".   Father "Napoleon, after his victory at Waterloo".

Sad, but TRUE!  :o >:(
