Hello All,
I'm Tom and I'm a gamer but proud of it! ;)
I'm open to trying most types of gaming but my main interests are boardgaming, RPG (Warhammer Fantasy RP atm) and wargaming.
I have recently graduated as an Occupational Therapist from Teesside uni in Middlesbrough but unfortunately only found out Pendraken were there once I was back down south!
Although I have just graduated I yet again find myself unemployed and filling my time furiously volunteering. I am interested in the use of games in therapy and the benifits of using different types of games as OT intervetions so always have half an eye on how I could apply it to where I am. Other than that I am interested in paediatrics and, ironiclly, vocational rehab (getting people back to work, education or volunteering).
Gaming wise I am currently working on a long term project to put together pick up and go games in box files. My thinking being that if I have everything there ready to go I can easily share different types of gaming with different people. I am going to start maybe with a wargame and maybe something to compliment my WFRP game so any ideas or suggestions about how to do this would be appriciated.
Finally I am embarrased to admit that I have yet to give Pendraken any of my money although I've seen lots of potential purchases for my project.
That said I have every intention of coming along to the birthday party so what I good time to start!
Tom :D
Sheffield darn sarf????
Yer 'avin a larf ;D
Welcome aboard HMS Insanity :ar! :O) 8-} <:-P - stay away from the jokes and totty threads, they are seriously good for your health :-bd
@Nosher Ha ha, well having spent two years in Boro getting stranges and sometimes condisending looks from people when I said Sheffield was in the north...
HMS Insanity you say? I thought this placed felt comfortable pretty quickly! :)
Hi Tom, welcome to the Forum!

Welcome to Pendraken! :)
Hi Tom. Welcome :D
Hello from another in the republic of south yorkshire!
Just don't go on about Morris ;)
It's all relative. If you live in Berwick on Tweed then even Newcastle is "South".
But Sheffield is in the North. Admittedly, on the map we're right at the southern/bottom edge of the North. But we're still in the North.
Trust me, I'm a Yorkshireman and therefore inphal infalab inphall right.
However, Derbyshire - barely 10 miles south of us here in Sheffield - is right at the northern/top edge of the Midlands/central England border.
Geoff.
And, of course, the correct spelling is "infallible".
Welcome Tom :-h
Welcome Plantpot, its a bit like being an alchoholic innit?
My name is Tom, and I'm a gamer............
It could be worse you know, you could be an online gamer as well, wait a minute, thats me..........
Hi Tom. Welcome to the forum.
Not sure what "OT interventions" are, but wargames require a) figures, b) rules and c) a playing surface. The first two are highly portable, the last less so. So if you want something quick and easy I'd go for a game like DBA. I've always thought of that as a halfway house between chess and true wargaming.
You also mention paediatrics. I'm sure you know the reservations about children and small lead-alloy figures.
Best of luck.
Ray
Hello there! :D
Hi Everyone,
@Hertsblue (Ray) - OT interventions are basically what we OTs do to help people get better/achieve their goals etc. It is our equalivant to giving you meds or a bandaid if you were a nurse (such a great simplification sorry RNs :-[).
I think something like DBA is a good example. For much more simplified version of this project I had two good to go HOTT armies plus dice and scenary that were good to go. I quite like these campaigns and am thinking of basing one of the boxes on them: http://perfectcaptain.50megs.com/villehardouin.html but I would love to put together a board game version of Rebuild 2: http://www.kongregate.com/games/sarahnorthway/rebuild-2.
Yeah children and lead is bad but children and games with plastic pieces to encourage them to interact, use their imagination and raise their confidence, now THAT is the sort of OT intervetion I am talking about! :D
@GordonY - Oh dear Gordon, what sort of online gaming are you additcted to? Are you recieving suitable support and encouragement from the Pendraken community? ;)
@Elliesdad - Well Geoff being from Yorkshire you must be right therefore I bow to your superior... Yorkshireness :D
@I_am_win - There was a friend of mine who always went on about the independent state of Yorkshire, similar lines...?
I'm a World of Warcraft addict, just cant get enough of the game, cuts into my painting time horribly.

I find the internet the greatest thief of painting time - It invariably starts with a "I'll just have a look and see what colour these should be....."
I bet you still churn out a fair wodge of stuff though - you always seemed to back when we gamed at the Arklay St club. I'd feel chuffed that I'd painted a handful of elements for DBM only for you to turn up with a whole new army you'd painted in a week.... :o

Yes, I reckon so, possibly we should revert Yorkshire back into a fuedal system...that would be cool too!! :)
Hi Tom.
Welcome.
Cheers - Phil.
I'm pretty sure there are significant areas of Yorkshire that never left the feudal system
"I bet you still churn out a fair wodge of stuff though"
Sadly at the moment Bob my churning is very much reduced, being forced to paint a shedload of Soviets for Secrets of the Third Reich (in 28mm). I hate painting 28mm stuff you spend an hour or two painting and all you have to show for it is a measly 2 or 3 figures, in 10mm I can easily knock out a regiment or 2 in that time.
Mind you I am looking forward to painting my custom Mech for that soviet force, its on a 7 inch x 7 inch base and stands about 8 inches high, gonna need a stepladder and a roller for that puppy.
