Cool, it's amazing what you find in these little local museums!  We take a trip to the Dorman Museum in Boro quite often, and the kids love it.

Cheers chaps, i'm not really sure what i'm doing with it yet, but it seems so far to be firmly a 'gamer's blog' so i guess that's what it'll be - with the add dash of geek.

I'm planning to mix things up with the different games we play but also with a few other topics like game reviews, modelling/painting*, etc.

I'm thinking it might inspire me to finish off the FPW French figs, and even my Dungeon World project.

I'll also be featuring, hopefully (if i a. remember to take the dashed tintype, and b. can actually get some decent pictures with the thing) some action reports from the weekly club games night.

We'll see.

What i really don't want to do though is start 'doing things to put on my blog'.  Seems the wrong way round that...

*EDIT: ooh...put one of these up just now!  http://luddite1811.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/dystopian-wars-into-blazing-sun_05.html (http://luddite1811.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/dystopian-wars-into-blazing-sun_05.html)

Nice report! And I like the paint schemes used for both fleets.

Interestingly enough, I also played a game yesterday evening. 750 points of FSA against KoB. No pictures, so it ever happened. But let's just say that it all ended in tears for my Brittania opponent, as his Avenger class fleet carrier was boarded amd captured by one of my frigates!  :o
A bit of luck on the dice on my part ended with his boarding attempt an utter failure, losing 5 AP in the process. My counter attack (one on one) did not fail.  :D

Aye, exploding 6's can make great results like frigates taking down battleships eh?

Shame about the pics though.  Would've been good to see them posted over at the Spartan site...

The latest bash saw us dusting off the old 15mm DBM armies for a round of the new beta-test DBAv3 rules.

We decided to use them for a refight of Magnesia, with an interesting reversal of history.

http://luddite1811.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/battle-of-magnesia-dba-v3-draft.html (http://luddite1811.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/battle-of-magnesia-dba-v3-draft.html)

I think a couple of things were key in the result:

1.  The Seleucid elephants behaved themselves this time.
2.  The Roman cavalry flank sat about until pretty much the end of the game and did nothing.
3.  The scythed chariots were successful.
4.  The Roman players kept rolling '1's'... :(

I've got two projects on the go at the moment, and the other (finally a Pendraken 10mm project!) will be probably be kicked off on the blog later this week.  I'm part way done on the painting already.

Post by: Luddite on 22 October 2012, 11:42:36 AM
Yeah, i'm not happy with it really.  In game this thing will be a 100+ ton monster so i think a battleship dazzle pattern would have been better.

I think with the other three i'll stick to a flat grey colour embellished with 'iron cross' motifs and battle damage.

So what do you think i did wrong on the camo-scheme?  It doesn't look right to me but i can't tell why.

:(
Title: Re: Luddite's Blog

Difficult to say L.....
The colours just don't seem to work together somehow.....Almost too complex in a way ??
Sorry.....Don't think that's going to help to you very much is it ? ;)
I think 'plainer' will work much better.
Shame really....I can tell a lot of work's gone into that !
Cheers - Phil.

Very interested to see what you think of Maurice. I'm going to try and stick with Warlord Games' rulebooks for the near future at least but I've a homemade ruleset that uses hexes and cards that I use to try out unpainted lead  ;)  It looks (from your picture) that Maurice uses cards as well? Be interested to know how that works?

Nice big Tank on your blog btw... don't fancy charging that with SYW cavalry  :o

Well, because the pack with the flags in said they were Russian flags?

Glad you liked it Lemmey.  The Chopwell Communists aren't done yet.  We'll be fighting a last desperate battle again next week.

It's the final gasp for the Reds and if they can't break through this time, their counter-advance will peter out restoring the front line to where it was before the Royalists invaded High Hold.

Should be fun!

Hi all,

So Leon was gracious enough to give me an early look at the new fantasy sculpts, and the constitution of the reorganised Warband army packs.

Here's my blog review on some of the new sculpts: http://luddite1811.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/pendraken-warband-fantasy-army-packs.html (http://luddite1811.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/pendraken-warband-fantasy-army-packs.html)

Here's my review of the Hill dwarf army pack: http://luddite1811.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/pendraken-warband-fantasy-army-packs_31.html (http://luddite1811.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/pendraken-warband-fantasy-army-packs_31.html)

Here's my review of the Goblins army pack: http://luddite1811.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/pendraken-warband-fantasy-army-packs_57.html (http://luddite1811.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/pendraken-warband-fantasy-army-packs_57.html)

Overall, i'd say some really lovely new minatures, a much needed and successful overhaul of the dwarves and goblins, and some solid 'starter army' Warband packs.

Think the hard plastic s mage knight, and the winged creature with the pants painted red is a limited edition metal mage knight model, 'a feral bloodsucker'. I use one in my gw vampire army as a winged vampire, quite a nice model!

The sci fi tanks are brigade models 6mm SF:

example:

nice find! now sell it to me for 15£, a 50% profit!!!

So...i've gone all Frostgrave.  Tried to resist but finally caved.  I must say I've enjoyed painting some lovely old characterful models.

It might be nostalgia, but, well...they don't make 'em like they used to...

Something a little different on the table for 2016, Mahdist War 1888, or Battle of the River Bank using 28mm figures and Black Powder.

And now, part two of the Battle in the Sudan.  Can the British hold on, or will the Mahdists overrun their lines?

Excellent stuff. Funnily enough I was thinking of the Battle for Dorking as a possible future BBB game. I'd need to do some work on OOB etc but it could make a very nice 'what if?' campaign.

For four years a guy at work referred to me as Dave, after about six months of correcting him I eventually just answered to Dave. No, he didn't have a broom .... though it is entirely  possible I may be a plonker :)
