If you had to have one wargame with you stranded on a desert island, what would it be?
Mine would be Blitzkreig Commander II with some Pendraken battlegroups for NWE '44. It's my favourite wargame and a period that I have enjoyed ever since I began to wargame in the early 70's with Airfix soldiers and tanks.
Sorry but I can' t play only one ruleset and period. Better sex with various castaway girls :D.
Could I choice more games?

Me too. But I like BKC 2, and 1942.
Wouldn't you need someone to play against?
You are on the island alone, so no dusky maidens I'm afraid. With BKC you can play solo, but naturally much more fun with a good friend as an opponent.
Yep - for me, playing with myself on a desert island (someone had to say it...) it'd be BKC.
Probably my North Africa DAK & 8th Army - just cos I'd have a large playing surface using the beach!
I Ain't Been Shot Mum and NW Europe, 1944-45 in 10mm.
If alone, no point in wargames. Can't gaze upon your slain foeman, behold the humiliation of his tribe, or hear the lamentation of his women.
BUT if I'm allowed an opponent, shogi.
As with favourite books, favourite movies, favourite music, whatever you took would drive you mad after the first ten years. And would you really try to hump ashore twenty-five pounds of cast lead alloy? :d
Of course not Herts, all your figures would be hand carved from coconut shells.
I can think of many rules i wouldn't take, but it would be impossible to narrow things down to just one rule set i would take.
So i'll just have to content myself with the seashell-clad dusky beach maidens...
Where is this island you speak of? ;D
Returning to topic, for solo play, Aliens boardgame. The tactical choice always changes and the scenarios are a challenge. With human opponent I like Epic Armageddon.
I would have gone for Space Hulk but i'm told Man Friday is a stickler for monster WWII games so Drang Nach Osten it is then :)
Actually rather than a game i would like my lead mountain and some painting stuff
Italian wars rennaisance figures and WRG 2nd Edition Rennaisance Rules. They took so long to play I might only get a game or two in 10 years on the island. ;D ;D

Play a game? It used to take me that long to sort out the points system. =)
Not really an answer but I've long held that ideally a rule set should pass the Desert Island test. That is, if a person had never heard of wargames, was on a desert island and a copy of the rules washed up could he or she figure out how to use the rules. (other than as kindling or loo paper)
I think the BKC/FWC sets, Fire and Fury and much of Ganesha games output passes the test.
Rulesets that don't meet the test:
a) DBMM V2, which I like a lot and play frequently , but find largely incomprehensible . To my mind DBA is worse by several orders of magnitude.
b) Anything by Two Fat Lardies. Two Hour Games, or the Peter Pig "Rules for the common man" team. Despite 40 plus years of gaming experience I just don't get what these people are on about.
c) Polemos which is one of the few games where I encountered a negative learning curve. The more I played the less sense it made.
Of course if you are on Gilligan's Island the issue doesn't arise cause the Professor could explain it to the rest of the castways. And the Skipper has the physique of a wargamer so has to be in the frame as a potential opponent.
