Title: Start of Maurice and BKC Projects
Post by: rexhurley on 20 April 2012, 10:40:10 PM
Hi guys inspired by Fred's blogs, Clib's work and JA Dawsons website plus finally getting over my technophobia  ;D ;D I have finally opened a Photobucket a/c.

Anyways here is a link to some pics I snapped of my first unit for my Maurice project, all unpainted lead has been reorganised (it was brought for other rule systems as is always the case eh  :'( :'( ) into unit piles awaiting painting, still have to do the Prussians yet!.  but for Austro Bavarian forces I have got about 127 points so gonna go with 150pt armies to allow National advantage cards to be used, slightly bigger than the 100pts in the rules  but bah who cares if I need to I'll just buy another card deck and play it as doubles or more likely to play C S grants playable Scenarios.

At the moment unit count (and this is after I have biffed out  :o 2 units of Cuirassiers and 5 battalions of line because I was pissed off after I had rebased them several times and decided to try an old ink wash technique bah  >:( )

2 Austrian Brigades of 2 Batt's German Line, 1 Batt Hungarian Line, 1 Regt of Grenz LI, 1 Light Gun, 1 Reserve Brigade of 2 Batts Elite Grenadiers, 1 Bavarian Brigade of 4 Batts Conscript Line, 1 Batt Trained Grenadiers, Artillery Train 2 Heavy Guns, Cavalry Brigade 1 Regt Hussars, 3 Regts Dragoons, 1 Regt Elite Cuirassiers (probably add two more later), Mercenaries will be 2 more units of Grenz Lights.

All bases are 30x20x2mm for infantry. 30 x 40mm for cav and arty, yes I'm doing double ranked cav units cause i like the bulk and hey doing alll forces so its what i want to do  :P

First pics are of my Bavarian Grenadiers finished last week just waiting on their standards to arrive from Vaubanner Graphics in Canada, perfect flags he makes i recommend them to anyone.

Terrain are some 150mm hexes I have had made form 4.75mm MDF I'm dabbling with for a terrain idea

Other shots are from some BKC elements I have finally setlled on 40x30mm for all foot, 40 x 60mm for vehicles, currently on 3mm mdf may change that as I have finally got my hands on a reliable source of 2mm mdf bases (warbases uk) rather thna the 3mm which I think is too thick for 10mm figs.

Enjoy and have a great weekend.  i'll update this thread like Dazza with his AWI as I go.

Cheers Rex....hopefully the link works if it doesnt let me know!

LOL's re photobucket its also my BF2/BF BC2/BF3 and COD online name  :D :D

Yes indeed re your posting its interesting to as I found the pics of your figures a lot better in your dairy than with the white background comp entries to be honest  :-\ :-\

Now for me I just have to settle on a paint style, stop rebasing everything 20 times and just focus then I might get somethign done I can play with!  I'm also interested to see what one of my latest acqusitions is going to be like to use as well, currently layer off Black using Vallejo....soon to be Foundry's paints finally gave in temptation and brought a 200 quid set and if that works I'll crack and get the one with all the browns in it, also got Dallimores Mastercalss book on the way to see if I can gleen anymore skills from it

It's good to know what photo styles look good and which don't. The white background ones for the painting comp where set up with a light tent and tripod and slow shutter speed to give good depth of field (I.e keep lots of the figures in focus). The painting diary ones are just quick snaps using the on-camera flash.

The white background does confuse the camera's light meter so it can be quite hard to get the exposure right - the figures often come out a bit dark.

I have thought about putting together a little photo stage - with a small ground area, a few bushes and a hilly / sky background. The main thing stopping me doing this is working out what size to go for. As it wants to be fairly small to be handy, but if it is too small then I can only photograph a few figures at once.

The biggest advantage of a quick snap of the figures on the painting table is that it is quick and easy so I actually take the photos. Setting up to take "proper" photos is such an event that I don't do it very often.

Ditto re your username  ;D

If you wanted to directly post the pics into the forum - just hover over the pic in photobucket & you'll see a box come up: click in the one marked as "IMG CODE" & then paste that into the forum box.

Simples  :)

My young wife who i met coaching rep badminton always used to say "biteme" when I gave her an instruction as a player (hasn't changed much ten years on  :D) "tosser" came from all the swearing that occurred while I was learning to play Battlefield BF2 properly, add the two together and got a user name no one has used before  :D

As for the figures yup just wished I hadn't inked those other units now mutter, mutter  >:( >:(
