Title: Scythians suggestions
Post by: Phobos on 21 March 2012, 04:07:43 PM
Hi everyone,

I would like to know which Pendraken miniatures could fit well for a scythian/cimmerian army. I also accept suggestions of miniatures that could match the look with a minimum conversion.

So tell me what are your musings about it :D

That is a hard question... maybe:

Dacian AD4 - love the pose
Dacian AD1- swaping the head and replace it with a greek helmet??
Dacian AD2-
Sassanid - AP6

here are some pics and intersting info

Thanks for your reply Jchaos79, very interesting article. :D

Personally, I have a similar idea about it, mixin iranian, parthian, sassanids, some nomads, maybe mixing with certain celts...

I´m thinking... Pendraken have any reference for dogs? I love to put some hunting dogs with the scythian cavalry :D

Great idea about dogs...

I supose this one does not fit too well in your army  ;) http://sg.tacticalwargames.net/forum/index.php?topic=4130.0

I have been searching for dogs for Conquistador army for some time... the only option I saw is this reference AV10 Dog team SLR (in vietnam australian) but not have the figures and can found any pics.

In another topic (the one in requests about sheeps, cows and so on) Leon had uploaded a pic of that reference of Vietnam Aussies.

Finally I´ve decided the following.

LR Clibinarii with bow and kontos for noble skythian cavalry, maybe some cataphracts too, maybe not. I stuff some legs and arms to make them look like clothes, no armour.
LR Horse archers. making scythians caps for them.
Infantry, with a mix of persian and dacian javelinmen.
Archers, with persian achaemenids.

_Not 100% sure about it, maybe I try first some conversions with spare riders of other ranges, and if it not pleased 100%... don´t know what to do.

Maybe this could be the next sculpting competition - "Design the horse archer of the year."
I mean, how many can we come up with:
Alans
Huns
Scythians
Peschinegs (sic)
Parthian
Sassanid Persian (same thing I know)
Mongul
Wearing a Tarleton
Aztec
T55
;)

Slightly off-topic but Christian Cameron has written a great series of books (fiction) dealing with Scythians & Greeks around the time of Alexander. You can find more details here. Thanks Ferb, I look for them in spanish.

Btw, finally I purchase like... 135 miniatures of Late roman range, between clibanarii (two types) catafracts and armoured command for a Sarmatian Army. They got half the charisma the scythians had (I mean the culture) but I want to play with nomads...
