Title: SYW Questions
Post by: Matt J on 14 March 2012, 01:29:55 PM
Hi all, after reading a rather good book on the SYW I was looking at collecting some forces for this period. Eventually I'd like to collect forces for Minden but as a pre-cursor I was looking at collecting forces for Quebec. I have several questions to anyone who might be able to help -

1, SYW infantry packs - with absence of images what is the maiin difference between march, march/attack, advancing, firing, port musket? Are there different poses per pack? do they include comand?

2, Canadian militia - what would be best for representing Canadian militia in formed up line units - troupes de terre(FI3)? provincial militia(FI8)? something else?

3, 60th Royal American Foot - should I use SYW brit models?

I was looking at doing 1/10 ratio so about 800 models in all.

Much obliged

Matt

Here's some pics of my old French and British collection,
"March attack" is the vertical musket marching pose. "marching" is the sloped musket. "Advancing" is the levelled musket, "Firing" isn't pictured, but is of course exactly what it says. Three command figures are generally in each pack; officer, ensign and drummer (though packs like grenadiers have no ensigns).

Well I started off as a painter, and got sick of it pretty quick! I might never have tried sculpting had I not read a magazine article that suggested that if you could paint well you could probably sculpt. So I gave it a go.
(Unfortunately all I had was miliput which I could not get to obey me and I gave up. I didn't try again for another ten years!)
I consequently assumed all sculptors were skilled painters too, they just don't have the time for it.

Anyway, firing figures;

Canadian militia, (I think one is summer and the other winter?)

I think these are "troupes de terre", but I'm subject to correction on that;

I'd agree that the 60th is proabably best represented by British regulars, or maybe Colonial Regulars for a more campaign look;

Almost forgot; Port arms, these are Prussians but the pose is the same across the SYW nations;

Superb...I (kind of) like to think that I can paint a bit...but my style is mine & different...and my sculpting is limited (so far at least) to conversion work, mostly on 28s. You, clib, are a mad genius mate  :D

Bootiful!  =D>

Incidentally, the guys in the full-skirted coats also work for Marlburian (and anything in between, of course).
