I've got a new personal pledge to support the independent book sector and stop buying from Amazon. Bookshops are great but when i need a book, i need a book so the internet is my usual method. What are people's favourite internet independents ?
Abebooks is pretty good http://www.abebooks.co.uk/ (http://www.abebooks.co.uk/)
Caliver is a treasure trove (but not always cheap) http://www.caliverbooks.com/ (http://www.caliverbooks.com/)
and ironically Amazon is good if you click through to "buy new and used" where there are usually lots of good deals from independent sellers
Any other recommendations ?
Helion are good, particularly as they publish their own titles. www.helion.co.uk (http://www.helion.co.uk)
Hersants used to be a good source, but I haven't seen them around lately.
All lot of the books that I have bought via Amazon have been independent booksellers such as Abe books. It is just easy for me to do this, especially if I am buying several books at once.
This is always the first place I look for used books. Not as comprehensive as abebooks, but one vendor with whom I have a great track record. In New York, but also serves Canada well.

And if you are in NY, they are close to a restaurant that specializes in chocolate.
