I found RM5 in the American Civil War range which is generic dismounted with horse holders and horses. I need "just" the horses for WW1 Dismounted Cavalry (Russian and German) so don't really need the dismounted, the horse holders may be useful though. Would these be the best idea or are they any more suitable models.
Conceptually, I am looking at One Horse per base, with horse holder and a infantry figure but haven't got a starting point just yet

The horses would be fine, we use the same ones for the 1860 Austrians as well, so you can buy them in packs of 15 for £2.00. The horse holders are in slough hat and kepi if I remember right, so not sure if they'd fit what you're after.
Si,
Look at AU20 in the Austrian 1860s range. It is just the horses, without horseholders, so you'd have to think about figures to do that role. But the horses are big noble beasts with pretty generic, non-period specific horse furniture. Recommended.

Excellent thank you both for that. AU20 it is for the Cav. In terms of dismounted troops what would be the feeling on using PPW30 (FPW Skirmish line) for German WW1 and possibly RCW1 for dismounted Russians to keep it different from the "standard" line units?
Lastly any suggestions for horse holders?

Nothing springs to mind, unless there are any suitable 'arm held out' type poses in the WWI range anywhere which could be used, maybe in the artillery crews. I've just asked Dave, and he can't think of anything either.
