Title: What are you giving up for lent
Post by: Orcs on 20 February 2012, 12:21:20 AM
So what are you all giving up for lent - if anything.

I have had a think  and have come up with a list to choose from

The Totty thread
Being rude (sorry truthfull) about the French.
Buying more figures.
Spending too much time on wargames forums
Beer.

After lots of careful thought I have decided that in the true spirit of Lent I will give up on the hardest one of the above. So after Tuesday I will only be telling lies about the French.

Christianity is the belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.

I shall not be giving up anything for Lent.

I'm giving up reading anti-faith drivel that self-contradicts by referring to a system contained within said faith whilst coming up with phrases like "cosmic Jewish Zombie" - especially when it's lifted from urbandictionary.com  ;) :-\ :d

Unrealistic resolutions that will only result in guilt and a feeling of failure when I don't keep to them.
Oh, and alcohol, and chocolate, and being nasty to people, and thinking I am always right, and.............. Oh damn, damn, damn!!!!!!

Nothing that is anti-faith is drivel.

Some definitions of faith are listed below. (Online dictionary)

1-Confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing.
2- Strong or unshakeable belief in something, esp without proof or evidence
3 - A set of principles or beliefs

So Luddite do have definite proof or evidence that there is no God/Supreme being?   I am certain you don't as many great minds have been trying to prove  this unsucessfully one way or the other for millenia.

Thus your own anti faith stance is your own personal belief or faith ie  you have a "Strong or unshakeable belief in something, without proof or evidence"

I started this post as a humerous look at what people might think about giving up for lent, as the comments by FK and others  show - not so that you could use it to ridicule others beliefs.

My daughter is giving up the iPad. Though I should, that seems too drastic for me. She also suggested I give up painting. Now that really ain't gonna happen  ;D

I'll probably stick with the tried and true, giving up sweets. I already gave up alcohol.

I joined in to be part of the fun, but I have to go on record as expressing my own contempt for the arrogant self-importance that calls itself faith, and for the PC drivel that ends up forced to grant the possibility of the flying spaghetti monster because it can't be disproved.

What they really believe is that if they turn a pretty face toward their English teacher and say "This four time I repeat this course you help me" he'll cook the exam results and ignore their failure to open a book since leaving high school.

Sorry, a bit late joining this one.

I'm not giving up anything for Lent either. I tend to take something up instead.

BTW my understanding is that Jesus is quite used to jokes and mockery. He got a fair bit of it while he walked this earth and just took it on the chin.
I tend to take a leaf out of his book and not get worked up about it.

Of course!   :D

All Hail His noodly goodness.   >:<

I suppose in honour of the great noodle, I should give up spagetti for lent.
But He made it so tasty for us all to enjoy and i'm sure he'd get upset if i failed to partake of His holy body.

I shall consult the next  :ar!  I encounter for meatball-based ecumenical guidance on the matter.
