Post by: Peritas on 13 February 2012, 01:50:41 PM
hey leon

I have been reviewed your catalog for French 1860-1870 FOPW and I missed Gendarmerie ( foot and cavalry) belong to the Royal French

Do you have any intention to do them???
:d

Thanks in advance

Peritas,

Not clear what exactly you are looking for.  Royal Gendarmerie? This is the Imperial period, and I haven't come across any record of  an Imperial Gendarmerie involvement, either horse or foot, in the Battles of 1870-71. Anyone enlighten me?  Or are you looking for the 18th century French gendarmerie for the Seven Years War?

Yours puzzled,

Mollinary

Detail says that some of the Gendarmerie attached to
Republican Corps may actually have been in combat.
He specifically quotes the battles of Orleans, Beaugency
and Vendome. However, they would not appear to be
large units and I would not think they are worth recreating.

Yes, I have also come across references to the Gendarmerie in the republican period of the FPW. Illustrations are few and far between but the mounted gendarmerie could perhaps be represented by the current French hussar figure. Colours are pretty sketchy owing to monotone illustrations but appear to be dark blue tunic and kepi and red trousers. Hopefully someone else out there will have better information, but I don't think a special figure needs to be cast.
