Title: AWI standards
Post by: wargamesbob on 30 January 2012, 10:10:55 PM
Can anyone point me towards a source for loyalist standards, most of what I've found to date are patriot ones. I imagine hanging a loyalist flag over the mantle piece probably wouldn't have been too good an idea at the end of the war !

Also does anyone know if British dragoons carried their standards during the AWI, I know they didn't carry them during the Napoleonic wars and seem to recall reading (a long time ago) that this was because of some incident that occurred during the SYW.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Bob

AFAIK, there is no much evidence in this matter.
We know that Queens Rangers carried green flag with union jack in the canton, similar to regulars.
I've also seen somewhere a surviving example - simple Union Jack, more rectangular than regular ones, told to be the flag of unknown Loyalist regiment.
All the other stuff that can be found in the web (at krigspill.dk for example) are pure fantasy.
