Title: 'Planes' for use in BKC
Post by: Steve J on 26 January 2012, 09:12:14 PM
I've added a post to my Blog showing how I made some simple 2d planes for use in my BKCII wargames. Details of how I did it can be found below:

As always, please feel free to comment via this forum or my Blog :).

A nice idea and they look very effective. :)
I have used printed counters before as stand-ins, especially for the Tabletop Generals summer courses I run for teenagers.

For BKC I picked up some of the pre-painted plastic planes from the Axis and Allies collectable game. I'm not sure of the scale, they are somewhere between 6mm and 10mm, but they look great to me.

Very nicely done Steve  8)

Have you got some with flames & smoke coming out the back for when we next play?  :d

Now that's an idea ;). I may knock up a few for those times when ack-ack is rather effective.

Love the planes and a great idea...

You could have two games playing on the same table (if you have enough players at hand) BKC on the ground and WoW in the air....

Time to dig out the WoW stuff....

Thanks for the kind comments chaps :). They would work perfectly well for WoW (or any other aerial combat game) and I like the idea of a battle raging in the skies above the ground forces at the same time.

For 2d printouts they look really good, and for a game like BKC were aircraft are peripheral it's much quicker and cheaper than finding and painting metal or plastic ones ( if they are available)

Steve,

Not only a great idea, but beautifully executed!  Well done.

Once they are at a suitable scale, the hardest part is cutting them out neatly. I use a scalpel as it gives a really neat and crisp finish. Of course you could stick them to thin plastic to make them more durable if required. This is something I'm likely to do in the future.

Hi

I know that might take away a bit from the aesthetics of it but have you considered printing them on OHP sheets, then you can cut them out quickly and blu-tak them on a sheet of Perspex on a stand. You could even quick change if necessary. Save doing all that fiddly cutting.

Cheers

Hi all

Was fiddling around with various software and came up with a graphic of a HP 50 Heyford and a Hawker Demon if anybody's interested. Still working on them (the fastidious may notice that the Demon is unmanned  ;D)

Cheers
