A letter from a three-year-old asking a supermarket why tiger bread isn't called giraffe bread has resurfaced online and made the author and the responder internet stars. Lily Robinson, who is "age three and a half" wrote to Sainsbury's last May, even drawing a picture of her imaginary dog Beaky at the bottom.
"Dear Sainsssssssssssssssssssbbbbbbbbbbbburyyys,
Why is tiger bread c/alled tiger bread?" she asks. "It should be c/alled giraffe bread.
Love from Lily Robinson age 3 1/2"
The letter, addressed to Sainsbury's Supermarkets, reached the customer service department, from where employee Chris King responded.
"Thanks so much for your letter," he wrote last June. "I think renaming tiger bread giraffe bread is a brilliant idea - it looks much more like the blotches on a giraffe than the stripes on a tiger, doesn't it?"
King then explains the reason behind naming the bread so was because the first baker who made it a "looong time ago thought it looked stripey like a tiger.
"Maybe they were a bit silly."
King encloses a £3 gift card for the store and signs the letter "Chris King (age 27 & 1/3)
Despite being more than seven months old, the story has been resurrected and has had more than 14,000 "shares" on Facebook in recent days. A spokesperson for Sainsbury's said although the store receives numerous letters, it was the only one to go viral "to such a great extent". "We take all our customers' feedback very seriously but our employees can have some fun occasionally."
Lily, who was four in November, put the money towards a comic book. Her mother Lucy, who documented the story on her blog, told the Huffington Post UK Lily is still "very excited that her letter is on the internet, but is more interested in nursery, her imaginary friends and reading."
King has since gone back to university and so was unavailable for comment.
And as for the tiger bread?
A source said Sainsbury's is in discussion with its bakery to see if the popular loaf could be renamed giraffe bread nationwide.

Dear Paul.
What a charming letter from one so young.
If you ask your Daddy to find the book "Silly Billies in history", he'll be able to tell you that the Roman soldiers (who lived a VERY long time ago) worshiped a funny Goddess called Carmen Miranda who wore very silly hats which had all sorts of fruit on the top.
The Romans liked this SO much they wore hats to look a bit like hers....Weren't they silly ?
I don't know if Leon and Dave can send you a gift voucher for THAT much, but if Daddy will send us your address, we'll see if we can send you something appropriate.
One of our naughty designers says he knows what he'd like to send :d.....and keeps muttering "Why do I bother ?" ;)
Yours sincerely - Phil (Self appointed public relations officer.)
I'm not sure this young 'Paul' fellow is a genuine toddler you know...
I've taught FE students with a worse vocab...

Hi Paul,
Further to Phil's kind message, I would be happy to send you a couple of things which will be so very useful to a helpful little boy like you.
The first is a special 'Pineapple Removal Tool'. Now you'll need to get mummy to help with this, as it can be a little sharp. This tool will help you to snip off any of those annoying pineapples, or anything else which looks a bit like fruit. 'Banana' swords, 'Melon' heads, and things like that. This will be very helpful for Daddy.
The second present is a special flourescent paint which stops things looking fruity. I will send you a paintbrush as well, and then you can protect all of Daddy's headless soldiers with this magic paint. It works very very well on ships as well, especially those ones with nice big sails.
I hope you find these useful, and I think Mummy will be very happy to help.
Cheers,
Leon
