Wooo Hooo! Been waiting for this for five years, just gotta fix a locum and I'm off.

Three short of a tour guys, if another three 1866ers sign up then its on, otherwise, no dice. Anyone out there up for the tour of a lifetime?

Cameronian,

Hope we get a quorum, I'm looking to do it too!  Did the Franco Prussian tour they did last August, and had a great time.

Sorry Mollinary I hadn't noticed your post below before editing mine; as I said we're 3 short of a picnic, if those who want to go sign up now and pay the deposit then it all systems go; I'm going to post it about on Bloodandiron, 1870 and the Toofatlardies, I might give Ralph Weaver at the CWS a phone. If you can do a bit of canvassing too then it should be on; fingers, toes, eyes crossed .....

My application will be in the post tomorrow.  As you say, this is a chance in lifetime, it is not the sort of tour that is likely to find a place on a list of annual favourites, but it is well worth a trip. I was fortunate enough to live and work in Vienna for four years, and had the opportunity to visit the area then. It is now four years since I last visited, but it is,amazingly, practically unchanged, and the fact that you have five major battlefields within 50 Kms means it is ideal for a tour of this length. Minimises travelling time, maximises bang for the buck. What is not to like?

Agreed, can't beat walking the ground; you did the FPW with them last year, I did it with RH in 2003, one of the best weeks of my life. Are you on TMP? If so could you post there and anywhere else that springs to mind.

Also in John DZ you will have a very knowledgeable and spirited tour guide which will enhance the tour

Would love to do this, but cash is the main stumbling block  :-\

Legionay 2012 on 5th May will have to be the alternate 1866 location for me, in 15mm! (Oversized 10mm!!)

If he wasn't needed at the casting machine, I'd send Dave with you!  He could do with a holiday.
