Title: Greetings Gamers!
Post by: James Miller on 14 January 2012, 10:45:30 PM
Hello All
James Miller, Loveland, CO, USA
I been gaming for almost 20 years now, self employed artist (sculptor/ manufacturer) I have been making concrete garden sculpture for over 10 years now with my friend & fellow gamer Geoffrey, but we are branching out and have started 2 new lines for gamers. One is Candora Castleworks ( a line of 12mm scale collectible castles) and the other is Flying Monkey Gaming Terrain ( a line of 10 -15 mm gaming terain - mountains, hills, caves, water features etc.)
I have a question: how many of you fine folks play RPG on 10 - 15mm? I know a lot of war gamers out there use that scale, and I've been gettin a lot of positive feedback from them, but are there any other geeks out there like me who play D&D, Call of Cthulhu, Rifts, etc. on 10 -15mm? It is actually an awesome scale for RPG - much more spacious and realistic for encounters.
What sort of stuff would you folks be excited about for 10 - 15 mm? Castles, wizards towers, steampunk factories, dungeon entrances? Gimmie some ideas. i intend to star marketing Candora Castles next summer here in the U.S. and i am already selling a few terrain bits on E-bay, but would like a bit of feed back.
I have a few photos to share but currently files are too big to upload on this forum gonna, try & pair them down a bit. Will post again later on one of the other forums.
Props to the UK crew for being so supportive!

Hey Leon, Hey Nik
I tried posting photos here on the forum but seems like the file sizes were too large. Another forum I can post them on?
Also, thanks for feedback about steampunk... been gettin a lot of requests for that actually. I'm gonna do a dwarven forge and a goblin tinker's workshop, maybe an abandoned factory too.

The Forum only allows pics up to 128kb, just so we don't fill up the server.  You can always host them somewhere else (Photobucket, Flickr, etc) and link them?

Hi JAmes welcome to the forum, I mainly game RPG rather than wargme as such.
Just heading back out into the black with firefly, mainly play savage wolds or Ubiquity, for lost worl we used out lego stuff, but my dinosaur hunting RPG was 10mm using pendraken hunters etc with my Magister 10mm dinosaurs. MY last foray into the black was using Pendraken, with my 28mm ships being scaled down to 34% (IIRC) to fit the scale.
Cheers
Stephen

so, for those of you who were wondering, the figures in the shots are mostly warmaster minis (12mm). Although there are a few pendrakens in there as well. ;)
The mountains are aprrox. 45 cm L x 25 cm W x 20cm H
Most of the castles are around 20 - 22 cm tall
I will shoot a few shots with Pendraken minis soon for you folks to get a better idea of scale. :D

Welcome sir!   :-h

Those are some nice buildings you have there.  They look a little more like mantlepiece ornaments than wargames terrain, but they are jolly well done.

I'd definately be interested in usable sci-fi wargames terrain along the lines of colonial habs, power generators, perimeter defence lines, dropship platforms, etc.
And also 'frontier' settlements...

Doing them with a mix of Chinese and Western styles would be great as like Maenoferren i'm looking at Firefly as a setting.

What sort of prices are you looking at charging?

Hey Luddite ~

The photos i have up currently are just of the first few prototypes, we will be adding a lot more castles with platforms for troops & such. I have used all of them as focal points for both wargaming and tabletop rpg though, and they work great!
I dont know if we will be doing anything specifically sci fi, but we will be doing more steampunk themed pieces that will work well for sci fi games.
We will have 2 different lines, so the Flying Monkey Gaming pieces will be sold unpainted (prob cast out of light weight expanded polyfoam) likely to be somewhere between $20 and $70 (USD) depending on the size. The Candora pieces will be sold pre-painted and cast in a durable hydrostone/resin formulae... they will be pricey $50 - $200, but they will be limited edition collectibles, so they will increase in value as the editions run out.
Pieces with an Asian architectural flair is an interesting idea, I think I will try my hand at a few of those & see how they come out. ;)
