Title: Warmaster website
Post by: Leon on 12 January 2012, 06:15:08 PM
We've been contacted by a chap who has resurrected all of the info that was on the old rickpriestley.com website, and put it into a new one: http://ricks-warmaster.com/ (http://ricks-warmaster.com/)

The site is still in the early stages, but there's a whole wealth of stuff on there, plus more to come in the future, including a review of our new Republican Roman's hopefully!

So, if you're a WM fan, check it out!

Yes, been there, like it. We are seeing a resurgence in Warmaster in my area. Finally!  Warmaster Fantasy is fun to play and several are dusting off their Warmaster Ancients armies again. Even one gamer is in his final stages of a Warmaster Napoleonics version.   I dont know how it will be different from the NapoleonicMaster of years past but anything that will help promote 10mm in massed battles I like  :D

My only real gripe with all the warmaster based games was the movement... it boggles me how there's potential for a unit to move halfway across the battlefield in 1 turn at that scale

I couldn't get the hang of the fact that my Roman legions always got trashed by light cavalry.  Good fantasy system but I was never too sure about the Ancients.  It just seemed like a slightly more complicated DBA.  But then again I've never been too sure of rules that cover over a thousand years.

Interesting, I have mainly played WM Fantasy and cavalry is uber powerful due to its short basing. I thought that the wide basing of Cavalry in WMA would temper this significantly. Personally I'm now playing lots of Hail Caesar in part because the balance between Cavalry and Infantry seems better.

Anyone else getting a *page unavailable* error on the Variants link?

Some of the mechanics do take some getting used to but overall  the historical system is much better than the fantasy version, the main improvements being only two rounds of combat may be fought in a turn and the role of skirmishers is addressed and they work rather nicely IMHO.  I'm not sure why your legions always get trashed by light cavalry, attacking head on the LC will loose and even when attacking in the rear or flank they will have a hard time.
