Title: Fellowship of the Ring?
Post by: Nosher on 08 December 2011, 07:48:50 AM
I'm not that familiar with the PD fantasy range and I was wondering if there were minatures that might be suitable for the Fellowship - Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Boromir and the Hobbits?

What about goblins? any in the PD range that might suit the Mines of Moira?

Cheers in advance ;)

We've got most of it covered:

Gandalf - AC19 wizard.
Legolas - FE1 Elf with bow although it's a hooded figure.  Could also use FET2 with bow.
Gimli - FD6 Dwarf with axe.  I could find a suitable Gimli-looking pose I'm sure.
Hobbits - You could use the Halfling figures, the one with the sword should do fine.
Goblins - A whole range of 'em, nice figures too: http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Fantasy-c21/Goblins-sc153/ (http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Fantasy-c21/Goblins-sc153/)

The only iffy ones could be Aragorn and Boromir, where I don't think we've got anything suitably ranger-y?

Gandalf - AC19 wizard.

Hmmmm. I have this figure. It's more Hagrid than Gandalf in my opinion.

But then mine is mixed in with the Elizabethan, ECW and Landsknecht ranges, rather than the slightly bigger Fantasy figures.

We actually changed the AC19 figure some time ago, so there's half a chance you've got one of the older sculpts?  Is he clutching the staff quite close to the body, with a chunky head?!  If so, that's the older one!

The newer one is more slight, and is holding the staff out to the side of his body.  I'll have to get a pic taken for the website.

Aye, that sounds like the one I've got. I like the figure very much, but when he arrived I instantly christened him Hagrid.

EDIT: This one http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,1559.msg13028.html#msg13028 (http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,1559.msg13028.html#msg13028), except mine's brown robes & black hair.

I look at him & think Saruman...

I'd love to see these sculpted on a bespoke basis...I know anyone'd only ever need the 9 [although individually they could be dropped into the ranges as well], but they would be top-notch - go on Phil, you know you want to...

One of my pride-and-joy gaming achievements is the 2ft x 2 ft Balin's Tomb I made [way before GW simplified it with plastic pillars and other assorted tosh...] and my lovely GW figures properly painted...it's a thing of beauty - but I'd feckin' love to do it again in 10mm  8)

The only problem is that you'd need to sell literally hundreds of each figure just to break even.

Boromir
NO3 Norse Command - The chap blowing the horn

Aragorn
ELM3 Medieval Dismounted Knight (with sword)

Aragorn (as Strider)
FB4 Fantasy Barbarian Chief
or
ELM7 European Late Medieval Shire levy longbowmen
This one is tricky...

And i'd suggest for an alternate Gandalf...
Ancient Late Roman ARL18 Arthurian Personalities 'Merlin'
He lacks the pointy hat though...

Yep agree with both of these, Aragorn as a ranger is dashed trciky what about FE3 wood elf with sword of FE4 command figure with sword... it might work???

How about one of the Elvish Outcasts for Aragorn - just need a bit of an ear job done on him.
