Title: Napoleonic French elite company headgear
Post by: kustenjaeger on 04 December 2011, 01:59:00 PM
Greetings

Has anyone tried creating French cavalry elite company headgear (colpacks i.e. busbies for chasseurs a cheval and for hussars and bearskins for dragoons)?

In theory one could also do this for some leger infantry.  I would imagine that greenstuff or even milliput might work for conversions.

If I get into 1809 to any extent replicating large French units may mean that the 1st company of the 1st squadron would need to be represented - e.g. 7e Chasseurs a Cheval is reported in April 1809 as having 761 men in its 4 squadrons - at 1:15 this would be about 50 figures of which about 6 might be from the elite company.

Regards

Edward

I've tried it in 15mm, Edward, and it rather depends on your sculpting skills. The trickiest part in pure conversions is getting them all uniform (i.e. same size, same height, same shape). It would probably be easiest to convert one figure and then cast the rest from that. I have to admit that I never got it right.  :(

Hi

I put in a request on this a while ago: http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,2814.0/topicseen.html

If there is more support perhaps we get it. Could not imagine doing the heads myself.
