Title: Lancia 3RO "Autocannone da 90/53" Self-Propelled Gun - Italian AA gun
Post by: Jose Mendes on 24 November 2011, 09:37:58 AM
I see that the Italin artillery is up there in the top ten. I woul like to throw a quick request for the Autocannone da 90/53.

Should it be made, starting from a single model could be produced three different - the Lancia 3RO truck, the AA gun and the Autocannone.

(That model came to my attention because I´ve just finnished the 76 AA russian gun and the model is amazing. Also I´ve an italian army and I notice that my request is missing in my Ariete Division).

Regards

I'd certainly buy a couple of these - it's the only chance my Italians would have against the British in 1942!!

At the moment I'd reduced to using 1/200th models.

Great!
I´d love to add two of these to my great italian army. I have 88mm guns with italian crews, but it´s an inmobile option.

Mobility and fire on the move are two completely different things.
Most ww2 tanks still needed to stop in order to fire accurately, so they wouldn´t fire on the move. The Chaffee tank is supposedly the first to gave a gyrostabilized gun, allowing it to shoot while moving, but it did not enter combat until early 1945. The Sheman had power traverse and elevation for the gun "it was fitted with gun stab(ilization)", however i´ve heard that it never really worked and the crews usually disabled it.
The advantage of the Autocannone 90/53 is clearly the greater degree of mobility, it could be maneuvered under its own power and be ready to engage enemy tanks and aircrafts in less time than the emplacement version. As a combat support weapon it could be attached to the main armour (Ariete and Centauro) combat units.

I´m not sure if it was this type of gun but Brittish armour had a nasty surprised when they were engaged in Bir El Gubi with long range artillery fire by italian autocannones.

Ok - 1st tank with Stabilisation was the Stuart and Lee 2nd, not certain if the Grant had it but dont think so. British crews didnt use it, but about 50% of US crews did I think(never been able to pin exact firgure down.

British tactics with Crusiers for cw=ertin were to fire on the move - RAC had desined the 2pdr mount with no elevating gear, it was elevated by the gunner with a sholder pad. This in effect stabilised the weapon....

None of these were particulalry good, and the first effective Stab was on a Cent 1, where it was fitted to prevent damage to the turret traverse.

The Autocannoe would take between 5 and 10 mins to come into action as it has to lower the support jacks, not exactly shoot and scoot.

Well, but the 88mm guns had to rise the side "legs", attach the gun to the two wheels pairs, and then bring a primer mover to tow it.
5 minutes is a long time, but I´m sure that it took longer to place the 88mm or the italian 90mm than to park the Autocannone and prepare it to fire.

I see these are available from one of the Japanese companies, but it's an expensive way to buy them. X_X

I am tempted though, as i do not serious expect to see them on the Pendraken lists anytime soon. :(

Yes, but when  :-/

You tempted us with those excellent huntin', shootin', fishin' chaps and bobbies for AVBCW back in Feb and we are still waiting =P~  :-w :!!

It's been so traumatic for me I had to go and order a coach and more 18th century stuff to paint! Sorry Last Hussar  ;) :d :d

Dont think this one should be urgent, less that 70 built, limited service.

So? There was only one 'Monty' (or Rommel or Ramcke), and they would be of limited service too in your average game. But they're in the catalog...

"Limited service" depends on your point of view. Perhaps if your Italians are in Albania or on the Russian Front. I'm playing 1941 Lybia where they equiped 3 armoured divisions! As far as I'm concerned that's "active service".  :)

It's on the schedule for 2012, so hopefully within that timeframe, depending on how Mart gets on with other stuff.

I know, apologies for that one.  Those got delayed as we'd already promised certain ranges in certain timeframes, like the Romans/Carthage/ACW, etc, so they kinda got bumped.  Dave's master moulded them though, so I'll see if we can squeeze them into Sept's releases.

It was the number of votes which got it up there, so there must be some people needing them!
