Title: How would you disguise 'Market Garden'
Post by: Last Hussar on 12 April 2010, 10:01:41 PM
How do I design a M-G type operation so that the German don't immediatly go "OK, everyone defend the bridges".  May be kreigspeil so at least there will be some initial confusion.  Also the Brits will know about the Panzers

Pick some other operation it looks a *lot* like.  Spread disinformation about your new RE assault bridging equipment.  Put out Buffaloes and Crocodiles and talk about the Scheldt.

Have the airborne guys defending the bridges at the start and a spearhead force trying to reach the last objective, you shoudl find your enemy will at least try to hold you up somewhere or try to take the bridges back.....  Pretend that the initial parachute forces actually secured all their objectives, just need to hold on to them....

The rest is up to Jerry :)

If you put your bridges closer to the coast you could then make the german think he is defending against an anzio-like coastal flanking operation. When the airborne landings occur he would have to choose between defending the beaches or pulling back to reinforce the bridges ( since he may still believe the paras are more 'pegasus bridge' than 'arnhem')

We did a disguised Arnhem years ago...we based it on a Russian Para drop into Poland in the early days of the war
