got a few more units in the pipeline, but 1809 austrians are my priority at the moment.
Very nice indeed.

I really like those, good stuff.
they are superb, can't wait the rest of them.
They look super, but I fear the Austrians may be too much for them. ;)
Those are very nice indeed J.S. - top-notch 8)
Excellent work, thanks for posting them. 8)
Very impressive JS, You must have a steady hand and good eyesight for that level of shield design.
Great stuff...lovely paint work
Like them tons. Those shield designs are quite something. 8)
Real good scheme of colors and great painting job! congrat
Those really look great! Nice one!
Amazing painting skills there, love them :)
Thanks everyone! :)
Next units will be royal clibanarii (some details missing here and there) and 2 units of infantry (need to finish the bases, but i ran out of static grass).
I'm sure Leon can help you out with the grass.
Gordon
Very nice!
Very impressive. I really must get on with mine.
DP
Superb !! :-bd
Cheers - Phil
Excellent work!!!
but... more pics, please? :D
Thanks!
But the Army is still WIP..switched to other projects like the 1809 Austrians and WW1 in the meantime; however, i can poste pics of what is already finished..actually it's only the bases who are missing (oh I hate basing...worst part of the hobby ^#(^ )
What a pity, I specially love to see more pics of the catafracts, in other sides.
Since I've already uploaded a pic of the army for another thread..here you go: Persia's glory in a shoebox :o
Unfortunatelly, I have to say that I kind of regret having chosen 10mm for this army...too few poses, no heavy infantry, "gnome-ponies" by MagMil. ec. whereas there's a plethora of nice and complete 15mm Sassanid ranges :-X
Maybe in 2015 or so when Clib continiues with the Pendraken range, I'll add some more units to this army...oh and the bases still need to be done.

Might be of interest: some "Persianized" Roman Clibanarii in the front row..as there are no shooting poses in the Sassanid range, I had to take those..
Great colours and fantastic painting!
Those really look great, and I have a feeling that the Romans based their Clibs on Sassanids anyway - maybe they're Palmarians or Western Sassanids?
Mad Lemmey
Very nicely done - striking use of colour 8)
Very nice!
I know what you mean about the range, it's one of those on the list to be replaced at some point with more variety.
8)
Beautiful painting! Striking indeed 8)
Cheers,
Kev
Lovely all of them. I´m converting lots of clibanariis and catafracts of Late Roman Range into Parthian ones, with lots of diminute beards, persian trousers, etc.
Which is the Elephants Manufacturer? MM?
Outstanding work JS, have bookmarked this for future reference - I am both insanely jealous and inspired
Thanks a lot for the kind comments! :)
And yes, the Roman heavy cavaly of late antiquity (and even far earlier..i once wrote a small paper for university on this topic) was strongly influenced by Persian designs, so it's no big deal to draft some Romans for the Sassanid cause 8)
Concerning the colours: I've read a lot of sources on this topic and even though no contemporary writer explicitly stated whether the horse armor had been a mix of blue and red or whatever, I got the impression that copying Achaemendid fashion was quite en vogue back then. And the Achaemendids loved their bright colours ;)
Also my shield designs of the infantry are inspired by Achaemendid schemes..don't know if they really looked that way (no one knows..we don't even know for sure how Roman shields during the Punic Wars looked like) but it makes sense to me and looks good.
Elephants are MM, yes. Unfortuantelly they use same model for all their ranges and only change the riders.
So I hope these are on your 2013 to-do list Leon ;)
But my MM Sassanian Eles have Howdas....
IanS :-\
You are quite right..I browsed in the WMA rulebook yesterday and saw the pics of the ancient Indian elephants there (page 8 ) and thought "Oh look, those are the same as my Sassanid ones" ??? But there are actually more, mea culpa. Well..nevertheless Pendraken could still produce elephants with a plain design (no funny globes and bells) when the range is being redone/ enlarged.
I quite like the bells and stuff on the MM elephants.
Isn't the new Carthage elephant from PD pretty plain?

Yep, positively nekkid...

We like nekkid...not in pachyderms particularly though ;D
African and Indian elephants are not exactly interchangeable, however.
The mighty shoebox strikes again! The other half of it is inhabited by the Romans at the moment. Here are some WIP pics:

Lot of more to come, as soon as Leon ships my latest order ;)
Very nicely done 8).
I can't believe it's not butter!
Look wonderful! 8)

Well...nothing's proven yet...maybe the Persians will cut through them like a a hot knife through butter :o ;)
Oh...How I hate show - offs ! ;)
Really lovely !
Cheers - Phil.
Very nice indeed J.S. 8)
thanks a lot! But J.S. sounds so awkward..I should have been more imaginative ;D
as Jeremy is my real name (in English) I should have chosen Jerry or something like that :-\
Anyways..Equites Sagitarrii are also done, pictures will be up tomorrow.

If you go into your Profile, and choose Account Related Settings, you can change your display name if you like? Your username would be the same, so you'd still login as J.S., but your new name would be displayed next to your posts.
New pics of my Persian forces..now finally with bases ;)
Those were initially meant to be an entry for the painting competition, but my cellphone staunchly refused to send the pics to my computer :]]
The whole lot:
not 100% pendraken though, but since the Pendraken range lacks some essential figures (command..), i had not other choice than looking for alternatives.
Hope you like them :)
Very nice indeed ;)
Wow cool! 8)
Great looking army. Have you got any closer pics of the elephants?
Thanks for the kind comments!
here are the elephants..I hope Leon doesn't mind me showing them here. But after all they are no direct competition to any Pendraken product..(would be nice though, if you continued this range some day..):
Very nice work on these! The Sassanid range is probably one which we'd like to replace with some of Techno's sculpts further down the line hopefully.
8)
:)
Beautifully painted, J.S. 8)
Excellent job. It's a very colored historic period, that allows to have brilliant armies.
Scincerely.
to your usual high standards JS, very nice 8)
Thank you guys, I really appreciate it!
Now for the Romans 8)
Any time you want a cross channel fight, my Romans would love it! ;)
Oh well, that'd definitely make for an interessting Operation Seelöwe what-if ;) 8)
Smashing job there. Interested in seeing your completed Romans along side those Persians.
Wow! These are magnificent and i am very impressed :)
Excellent stuff there, and very inspiring as I am just about to start on my newly assembled elephants. The joys of DBA in 10mm on 28mm bases!
Certainly do like them - inspirational painting. Was wondering what forces to use to oppose my Late Romans.
Now I know!!!!!! DaveL
Beautiful army, great
