Big spread in the November issue on gaming 1866 with lots of PENDRAKEN photos too. One to buy methinks.
Ah, I forgot about this, I'll have to make sure we pick up a copy.
I`ll pick up a copy asap 8)
Er - I have the November issue in front of me and it's mainly ancients. You wouldn't be meaning the December issue, due out the 17th Nov, by any chance?

Sorry, yes December.
Oh, good. That's something to look forward to. :)
Thanks for the tip.
That reminds me I need to renew my subscription
Well its out, nice graphics, pity they've put an American flag next to my name!
Well...the Americans have won every war ever.
On their own.
Apparently.
So its only right I suppose.

ERm - only war the Yanks have won without allies is ACW, and that was damned close run thing.
IanS :d
I think Luddite was being sarcastic re. Hollywood's version of World War II. And the fact that a friend of mine who went to university in Kansas was asked if he had driven from England.

Well this does look interesting. I did exactly this period for the first three issues of Wargame Journal a few years back, now sadly no longer with us (WJ not me!).
If I wasn't committed so heavily to 15mm and 6mm I'd do this in 10mm ... really, honest - I mean it, I won't buy any 10mm ... I musn't buy any 10mm ... JUST STOP ADVERTISING OK! :'(
Oh ... those Jacobite 10mm (Scots and English) I bought from Nik Harwood have just arrived ...
I'll convert you yet amigo ;) 8) <)
Leon - is Nik on commission? I'd like to report him for subverting my hobby! Just when I think I've got it sorted and under control, he advertises a new army for me to buy. Please censor this man. Thank you.
Nice 1866 models BTW ...
The Austrians in this scale for 1866 look really good, and who else does Prussians in three different marks of the pickelhaub?

Friends of mine have started 1866 - in 52mm :'(
My little 10mm Wurttenberghers! Feel a little erm... ;D
52mm? How - what - where - who - when - why - pictures ...
Irregular, gloss enamels with gloss varnish!
Will get photos next time they're out.
Means I can use my 1900s Britain's against them!
Comments on the article mes amis.
Article was excellent, great pictures, very good account of the differences in weapon usage and artillery mishandling!
Really looking forwards to the second part on an underrated war that had major repercussions for the whole of Europe.
Nice comments on PC wargames too!
Thanks
Agreed about text and history. Would like to have seen some mapping and army organisation details. This may follow in the next article, especially if Bruce Weigle is involved.
I would have liked to have added all the above but the brief was 5000 words plus photos. If you're interested have a look at HELION PRESS, loads of good stuff on 1866 there. I'm not sure if Bruce will do other than reprise his Problus scenario. For OOBs have a look here, Austrians and Saxons only, for Prussians you'll have to dig a bit http://www.austro-hungarian-army.co.uk/oob.htm ; re maps I would really reccomend Bruce's 1866 rule book, excellent scenario maps there - go on, treat yourself for Christmas.
I have to agree with the Helion stuff, absolute gold mine for 1866 (which Osprey never really did in detail)
I would also like to endorse the Helion material, event to the extent that I have bought books in French from them for the superb artwork. They have a superb little volume entitled "The Bohemian Battlefields of 1866" by Lt. J H Cornwall, which consists of sketches of the battlefields he made in 1867 for the Journal of the Royal Artillery. Great sweeping panoramas of the battlefields to gladden the heart of many a wargames battlefield designer.
Furthermore, Weigle's "1866" is a superb reference work whether you use the rules or not. There are OOBs, maps, discussion of tactics, chronology, e.t.c.
I've the 1859 and 1870 rules from Bruce, but haven't got around to 1866 yet - don't know why as this is one of my main areas of interest. Dabbled with Bob Jones Repique system a bit, well support by a Yahoo group. Also well aware of Helion and all their goodies ... still saving up for everything on the shelf.
Treat yourself to 1866 Dave, better still get the missus/special person, to buy it for you, it really is a splendid book. If you can be bothered, Strategy and Tactics produced an Austro Prussian board game with an EXCELLENT accompanying magazine; probably get it online at 2nd Chance Games.
Re rules; FOB is really shaping up to be an excellent set for 1866 and 1870; I've produced a set of cards for 1866 (Austrian and Prussian only sop far, French follow). Tweaks are required but the substance remains acceptable.
I was wondering which Americans were at Konnigratz ... assuming of course they won this battle!
