Title: Good Painting Guide ?
Post by: Techno on 31 October 2011, 05:57:54 PM
Hi All.

My young Nephew....All right Great Nephew has decided to become embroiled in this great hobby...
Can anyone recommend the best online guide to painting 25/30mm figures.?.... For a complete beginner.

All the stuff I know is probably 20 years out of date !

Cheers - Phil. (Don't worry...I'll get him interested in the smaller stuff, as soon as humanly possible ! ;)

ok not online but i'd highly recommend the Citadel painting guide for a beginner and (if you can still get it) the Kevin Dallimore Foundry guide.

The best website for hints and tips is the Steve Dean forum http://www.steve-dean.co.uk/ (http://www.steve-dean.co.uk/)

Look up the painting clinic. Geared more to larger figures but a good place to start.

Brumbaer's Warmaster site is good for 10/12mm figures, I think.

This painting blog for 10mm Napoleonics: http://10mmnapoleonics.blogspot.com/

It depends how quickly he wants to get figures up and running. There's a good 28mm painting guide in the last issue(57) of WSS for finishing armies quickly. Might well appeal to a young novice who wants to get stuck in.

A delayed response but I only just joined the forum so I am lodging a plea of not guilty! :-)

Here is a step by step I did on painting 28mm Renegade WW1 Germans. Not the highest quality of painting but a good standard for the table and easy to emulate.

Thanks for all those links guys....Little Great Nephew sent me some photos of some stuff he'd painted recently.
I was well impressed !....."How did you get them so neat for a first attempt James ?"
"I got Dad to paint them."..... :-<
