Post by: Matt J on 27 September 2011, 09:12:42 AM
First attempt at 10mm. Lighting not great on photos but I think they look not to bad. Any comments welcome

Now that's what I call an army!  :o Very pretty.

What sizes are the bases?

They look as if they mean business. What's next? Sassanid Persians? Goths?

Thanks for the kind comments guys. This is the first bit of painting I've done for a few year so it gives me a kick up the arse to do some more

QuoteWhat sizes are the bases?

Figures are based for warmaster (20mm x 40mm) although it may be a while before they are ever used in anger due to geography (I live in rural shropshire) and family (3 kids 2 of which are pre-school), ie currently I have no life  :'(

QuoteThey look as if they mean business. What's next? Sassanid Persians? Goths?

Got a pile of dacians to work through to go against these guys, really like the dacian shield designs, all vines and flowers. But been distracted by Normans, Saxons and now crusaders (like most others I'm easily influenced by whats on the tv)

QuoteLovely - that shield work all free hand?

Yes all freehand, bit of a bugger to do but not as much as painting on the sandal straps

Remember Dacians can use Sarmatian allies too.

"family (3 kids 2 of which are pre-school), ie currently I have no life"

I thought that as our kids got older, I'd have more time, but the reverse seems to be true.

Being a Shropshire Exile Matt I know how you feel, there used to be a great club in Shrewsbury (or if I'm ever up seeing the folks in BC)...

Yep, nice town not far from me, used to love playing cricket there, cracking ground beautiful setting, pints in the castle hotel after (unfortunately cricket has also been put on the back burner since having kids, my significant other fails to understand that only civilised games last all afternoon, have a break inbetween for tea and cake and where post match drinks are compulsory  :()

Now get those Dacians done.   :D

Yes, I did the archers first, hence no close up shots of those. This seems to be a very forgiving scale to work with and looking forward to doing much more particularly Phil's Republican romans when they go into production, they look like they'll paint up lovely. However these little buggers took literally months, I don't get much time to paint and I'm a bit of a purist, so no drybrushing/overbrushing or magic washes. I can't do Nik's speed painting (just bonkers, really I mean I couldn't paint a stand in 1h 30mins let alone an army!).

Hi Nik. This link may work
