I know there is talk of a Black Powder derivative for the renaissance period but I wondered if in the interim Hail Caesar might be better placed to be re-worked to suit the period better?
In Black Powder the firepower element is quite decisive whereas in HC the decisive element is Hand combat. For this reason alone I feel HC would work better simulating the push of pike, tercio's, etc.
Anybody else had any thoughts about this or know of someone thats doing conversion work that would like to collaborate ideas? :)
Not a bad idea, but you might want to transfer the artillery rules from BP the HC ones are for trebuchets, with mininum range. Tercio - very large unit, all round fire.
Big difference is the move distance and the unit break points (BP tends to be 3 or 4, HC is 5 or 6).
I think there's a pike and shotte version of Blackpowder coming out, otherwise it depends on your definition of Renaissance, Italian Wars and upto about 1550 HC might be best after 1550 probably a BP derivative.
My thinking has been all around ECW/TYW before firepower got too powerful - like tou say if BP are bringing out a P&S version it might be better to wait.
I just hope the P&S version is closer to HC as firepower in BP is pretty powerful and the move distances a bit too bold for my liking
