I have painted a few bases of 6FSJ, was going for the Eichenblatt camo look, but I have quite a hard time getting it clean: I tried mixing on a wet undercoat, thinking that would create a bit of a gradient look, but the result turns out either spotty or like a very vague green to brown transition. When experimenting with brown and black wash, some area's looked better, but others become way too dark. With the washes I'm gonna try a bit of aimed washing, but how do you guys paint the camo on? I use the Panzer Color sets, that's vallejo I think, and I have all the colors, including the famous german sand color, german brown and green camo, and so on, but it just doesn't look the part, I find.
Any advice, or am I just being to picky here? (been doing a lot of art-ey 25 mm lately, so maybe I'm overdoing it)

I've done loads of British paras, and went quite big for the blotches (which are fairly big in real life) as otherwise it just turns into a mess

For some SS I tried dotting on some cammo with the end of a cocktail stick, and sprinkling on some paint to try to give an impression of pea dot - it sort of works. But I'm glad I didn't have to do too many.
OK, going for bigger dots, that'll be step one, thanks guys. I have the 17SSPG waiting to be painted after the 6FSJ, and I tried sprinkling with an old toothbrush, but although my desk now has a nice camo area about 1 sq. inch large, the figs didn't get much color. I'll try the toothstick method for the pea dot, it's probably not gonna be easy :D

Yes I got that effect too - the desk looked good, the figures hardly seemed to get any paint :'(
One method I have used is to take an old brush, and trim it until only about 2mm of the hairs remain. With this you can stipple paint onto the figure, and kinda get the impression of cammo in this scale. It even helps if it's a really old brush where all the hairs stick together, since you get a more irregular result.

Cool, I'm trying that with the next tester base, time is getting a problem, Crisis in in 5 weeks and I'm still painting...
I hope it won't interfere with my plans for 2011? It would be nice if at least one of these would work as planned:

But seriously, good luck with the painting, and I hope the little trick will be of use to you. The point is, you get the impression of cammo. And not a copy of oakleaf or peadot or whatever type cammo. And as such, it may or may not work for you. I'll see if I can manage a picture so you can see what I mean.

Definitely go for the impression Rudy - and exaggerate: anything that looks oversized & a bit 'cartoony' close up will look great at arm's length on-table...some of mine from a few years ago:
