Sorry my internet went kaput and I didn't manage to document the process ;D

2 more weeks until the arrival of the opFor!!!
Excellent, very nice! 8)
You've completed those beautifully Sevej - looking forward to seeing the opfor :)
Excellent little army there.
Really showcases what 10mm can do for a 'massed ranks' look.
You've painted them really well too. I like the grass on the base, although if its anything like the grass on my Mongol army bases, it'll rub off pretty quickly >:( Hehe...
I think i'd like to have seen a few advisors, guards and flag bearers with the Hero, but otherwise excellent job!
Those are great! Really look the part. :D
Hey ! Great stuff !
Cheers - Phil.
Thanks for the kind words :D 10mm are truly pleasant to paint since I don't have to wait for very long to see the results.

I hope not :o but it's been my concern too. The trick with static grass is to place really thick layer of PVA to glue them on. But with 10mm, there's a limit on how thick you can apply the glue before the guys are growing green hair for their hands and torsos!
Great job! Well done!

I used to find static a pain, but...
I find a 50/50 pva & water mix sticks static best, tap off the excess (brush off the legs/bayonets/flagpoles) then leave it to dry. Then a stiff breeze outside or puff of breath removes any loose stuff, before spay varnishing, I've lost hardly any in the three years since I started using this technique!
Wow, they look amazing... can you explain again how you get that base effect, it looks so good; but I`m scared to try and do it for myself. I just purchased (by mistake) some of that finish but haven`t a clue how to get those results with it.

Hmm, I think it's pretty basic stuff. But it's double layer basing, which I've never tried before.
Before I glue the painted figures on the base, I lay down a thick layer of PVA on the base. I stuck the figure on the base, and then I deep them in the sand. Wait overnight, then I wash the drying sand with a mixture of 1:1 PVA:Water, with a little black ink.
Then I lay another thick layer of PVA on the sand. This is a little more difficult due to the figures, and I must make sure no glue get on the higher part of the figures. Then I dip the element on the static grass bucket. I leave it there for a while (usually I use the time for putting PVA on another element, since this takes a while).
When I say thick, you got to make it as thick as possible without drowning the figure. I think it's like 1-2mm thick.
Then before tapping over excess grass, I pushed the static grass around the figures down gently with my fingers (or another ice cream stick). Flip over to get rid of the excess grass. Done.
I use fine sands from pendraken stores (I think it's from a not yet materialized company called minibits.co). The static grass is GW's glade grass from my old hobby days. I love the green/brown hue, and the fact that they're plasticy (instead of organicky, if you get what I mean). I've never gotten another static grass, so I don't know about the other brands.
Another tip is to make sure no single speck of PVA is on the edge of your base. I find it useful to scrape the edge lightly with box cutter before dipping them on sand/grass. If there's any stubborn stuff, I brush them with water after it dries.

It's coming very soon....! :-$
Thanks Sevej, thats really useful to me. You made it easy to understand. I`ll try it next batch I do.
Glad to be helpful :D
