Title: port firing pose
Post by: Jim Ando on 10 September 2011, 07:20:56 AM
Hi

Can anyone tell me what a figure is doing in the port firing pose (ie SYB 10 for example).

I know what holding a musket at port is but port firing is a mystery.

Cheers

Jim

I believe (someone will now leap in and correct me no doubt) that it corresponds to illustration 25 or 28 in the image at the bottom of this page

http://www.fttoulousejackson.org/Toulouse/DRILL.HTM

and signals to all around "my weapon is loaded and I am ready for an order to level"

I have the impression that while the technology stayed fixed, many drill steps were dropped as the drills became simpler.

This is the sort of thing where it would be cool if each figure range had some "designer's notes" to help clarify the designers intent and sources.
