Hi Folks, I'm looking at getting some more late Germans for my crisis demo:
I am recreating the counterattack SW of Carentan, where the 2nd Btn of the 101st got under severe pressure from remnants of the 6th FSJ (I have those) with support from elements from the 17th Pz Gren Div, mainly 37 Reg and 17 Pz Btn.
What troops do I take for those SS? Can I use regular troops uniform-wise? And for the officers?
Anyone made late SS for Normandy?
I can't think of any you would avoid (except perhaps the early war, which I have not seen). Most of the difference comes out in the camouflage colors which is purely a paint exercise.
Here you are Rudy - this is a commission I did for someone a few years ago who was planning pretty much the same thing I think:

As lentulus says, it's in the painting really.
I agree paint job is all the 'conversion' needed. Early war figures will work too, you'd be surprised how many german soldiers were still wearing jackboots in 1944. One thing to avoid is Panzerfausts 17SSPGD is documented as not having them in the early part of Normandy, can't recall exactly when they did but it is definately after your scenario time frame. Will have to check on Panzerschrecks.

Excellent guys, thanks for the info!
For my demo I'm doing the Carentan counterattack, on the German side that means some 17th SSPG and some 6FSJ Paras. So, I was just wondering, the German para's are in camo outfits as well: how do I paint the difference between Erbsenmuster and Eichenblattmuster? ;)

OK, this weekend I'm getting some professional help in an experiment: I have gotten an old toothbrush and a bit of mesh, and using inks my daughter is gonna try the old kindergarten splatter technique on a few squads. I'll tell you how it goes :)
