Title: Been absent for a while...
Post by: Pruneau on 07 August 2011, 12:13:50 PM
But that doesn't mean I played no games, on the contrary!  I've joined a wargame club, and we hired a new playing hall, 200 square meters of gaming goodness.  Then I really got sucked in to the refurbishing of the former garage: I had to build a sanitary room, we constructed a 5m long bar, clean up floor and walls, painting, panelling, some plumbing, electricity, there a lot of stuff that needs to be done, but the result is awesome:

Here's the lounge area with yours truly on the left.  Notice the club apparel  8)

The bar, offering a wide choice of Belgian specialty beers: Orval, Westmalle, Duvel, you name it!

We have well over 50 members now, actually yesterday member 59 registered!  Open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, until the wee hours of morning!

It's great to have this kind of facility 15 minutes from home, with lots of people that are willing to play new stuff, 100+ boardgames, and people playing in 6 mm, 15 mm, 28 mm, and now also 10 mm  8)  I started 2 RuneQuest campaigns again, and we had to disappoint some people because I didn't feel like doing three groups as even getting these two on the rails took another 4-5 weeks, during which is did little else than RQ.  Now I have restarted my WW2 10 mm project, though, and it's brilliant stuff.  We have reserved a table for Crisis, where I hope to present my new WW2 rules that are well underway and - according to the many playtesters I now have - are thoroughly enjoyable and with a good tactical feel.

But enough blowing my own horn, just wanted to give a heads up as to why I seemed to have disappeared.

Been a member of a wargames club for nearly forty years now. I'd recommend it to anyone. :-bd

Rudy, what a fantastic place for gaming and friendhsip. Here in the US, all we do is rotate people's houses to go to while making sad faces about brick and mortar shops that exist no more.

In Angus, we're stuck with the Boys Brigade halls and soft drinks and chocolate bars  :(

We us the Broughton Wings Sports and Social - has a large upstairs area if we need a big game, that has to be arainged in advance. Normal Thursday we use the main concert hall, down stairs. 30 people normally, playing in all scales and periods. Cheap bar as well.

What a fabulous set up Rudy and good to see you back.

As for 'Club Envy' I'd just be glad to have a club on my doorstep ;)

I'm still working on the bar staff: get rid of the nerdy gamers behind it and get some charming ladies  in instead, once that is arrranged we're good to go! ;D
