I'm toying with the idea of painting up some 10mm figures for Song of Arthur and Merlin by Ganesha Games.
I thought I could start with:
Arthurian personalities ---> http://www.pendraken.co.uk/ARL18-p2707/ (http://www.pendraken.co.uk/ARL18-p2707/) for both Romano-Brit and Saxon peronalities.
Roman militia ---> http://www.pendraken.co.uk/ARL10-p2699/ (http://www.pendraken.co.uk/ARL10-p2699/) for Romano-Brit rank and file (how many poses in the pack?)
Roman arcoured cav ---> http://www.pendraken.co.uk/ARL13-p2702/ (http://www.pendraken.co.uk/ARL13-p2702/) for a mounted warband (poses?)
Anglo-Saxon Militia ---> [url]vhttp://www.pendraken.co.uk/ARL16-p2705//url] for Saxon rank and file (how many poses in the pack?)
Anyone have any better ideas? How would you do Picts or Irish?
Cheers,
Nic
Sounds like a great idea. I also used http://www.pendraken.co.uk/ARL2-p2691/ (http://www.pendraken.co.uk/ARL2-p2691/) armoured spearmen for Romano-British armoured infantry in my Warmaster Arthurian army.
Cheers,
Kev
Arl 16 is 3.5 poses (there are 3 distinct poses with two hair variants on one of them)
Arl 10 is similar
My cavalry is now mixed up in units but I think it is 3 poses per pack.
If you just want a few of each poses for skirmishes then its always worth asking as Leon is pretty good at putting together bespoke packs

A couple of suggestions
Arthurian knights: ARL20 Cataphracts with Kontos
Figures in the Medieval range that might do double duty as upper class Irish warriors
ELM12 Irish Bonnacts (with spear, not the axe armed figures)
ELM13 Irish Kern
ELM20 Irish Horse
AS4 Anglo-Saxon Great Fyrd are also good all rounders to mix in with your Roman militia
I'm not sure about what to use as Picts as they were quite distinctive.
HHmmmmm Leon, is this true? Are the lads at Pendraken really such gentlemen that they would put together a custom 'skirmish' pack?

We could knock something together for you, no bother. Just pop us an email of what you'd like in it.
They are top chaps. I've had a few packs of 10 mixed figures for use with the dungeon set.
But once you see the Late Roman figs by Clib you will need an army of them. ;)
Next pay packet will allow me to justify such a small purchase to the wife/boss! ;)
This project is finally progressing.... it just requires me to be in the same country as my figures and paints now. I will post updates when something further happens.

That sneaky geography - always conspiring against you... :D
Ah ha! Yes, but now I am in the right country - and so are the paints.
A quick note of praise for HM's Royal Mail. Leon dropped me a note to say he posted the paints on the 2nd of May. Today, on the Third, they had already reached Belfast! Back in Australia, it'd take at least three days to receive post sent from the same suburb...
Lovely figures by the way. Just lovely.
Well, after much distraction, the first WIP pictures of my 10mm SAM project are up on my blog!

Really nice work! Wow! :D

Ha! At the moment there is no grove to speak of. Still don't know which way is up (metaphorically speaking).
Thanks for all the compliments. I currently have the first two of Arthur's knights started.
Love the paint jobs on them thar figs, I only wish my camera did close up shots as good as that!!
Lovely work !! :-bd =D>
Cheers - Phil.
More WIP shots on the blog, this time of Arthur's companions.

wow your paint is really amazing! good work men!
that's very interesting and beautiful too !
I didn't know these rules Song of Arthur and Merlin. I may be interesting by doing this kind of "armies" ( to solo play :-\ ).
Is this book ok to play, or do I need the others ?
and.. any Bat Rep somewhere ? ;)
Really cool Clibs

The current edition of
Song of Arthur and Merlin is written as a stand alone game. You do not need any of the other Ganesha Games or suppliments. However, the rules for weather conditions found in
Song of Wind and Water can be used if you choose. I have had a few solo games and the mechanics of activating figures (not strictly igyg) still makes for a fun game.
Thanks Irregularwars.
I think i'll give it a try ( my usual opponents can't play for months.. :( )
<think> and now I must order figs too ! </think>

I look at my painting efforts and think, "Um, not bad". But then I see things like this and just realize I'm not worthy :'(
Brilliant. Full of character. :-bd
Those are beautifully done 8)
Thanks guys. The sculpts practically paint themselves. Working on some Irish right now who are principally from a rival company - but they also include Pendraken's own Kiera!
Irish - what Irish? ;)
Those are all very, very nice 8).
Thanks guys. Here is Keira AKA Iseult the Raven. Just ignore the chaps in the background... :-$

Perhaps it's because I have just found out that I have to start working again from Monday, perhaps I was just enthusiastic, but in just about the fastest turn around ever - http://irregularwars.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/flavius-constans-just-about-last-roman.html (http://irregularwars.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/flavius-constans-just-about-last-roman.html)

Really great pictures, well done (where did you find the Notitia Dignitatum reference for that unit too - dodgy dossier if there ever was one!)
Really well painted figures, and I really like the way you have done the 4 warbands. The late era Romans are great figures, and I must get more of mine painted. That you had to use some MM figures for the Irish does highlight a bit of a gap in the Pendraken Dark ages range, as I had been looking at putting together some Saga warbands in 10mm but Welsh were hard to find figures for in PD ranges.
In the blog you mention washers for small bases - I found eBay is a good source for cheap washers I was able to get a couple of hundred 12mm washers for a quid or so. But it is strange that using coins is often cheaper than using washers!

I'll have to keep an eye out on ebay in future. The thought had'nt even occurred to me.
I suspect that the Late Roman Saxon figures could probably be used as Welsh - they are more or less generic spearmen with round shields. For a warlord you could use the Saxon leader from the Arthurian personalities pack (my Aethelwulf).

;D Cool! Really look great! Just posted mine...
Any suggestions for appropriate buildings? I'm having trouble finding any Roman and/or Early medieval( dark ages) structures in 10mm.
The Baggage Train - some very nice 10mm buildings for this period.
I have a few of the small dark age houses, a Roman Watch tower and some tents. I saw their roman wall sets at Phalanx the other weekend and these look really good too.

I thought I had a photo

Awesome! I'll check those out. Cheers! :)
Ordered some houses (I can use them for irregular Wars as well), now I need to find a wardog to complement my Saxons. Any suggestions?
For a big dog the Pendraken Wolf would work (Right hand of this photo)
There are also dogs in a couple of the modern ranges (Russian WWII and Aussie Vietnam IIRC)
hhmmmmm, still not happy with any of the 10mm war-dog options out there.
As I embark on a major scenery building drive, I've now started wondering about another two Arthurian warbands
i) some British light horsemen ---> ARL14 http://www.pendraken.co.uk/ARL14-p2703/#.UAhqOmFfFP0 (http://www.pendraken.co.uk/ARL14-p2703/#.UAhqOmFfFP0) and ARL12 http://www.pendraken.co.uk/ARL12-p2701/#.UAhqP2FfFP0 (http://www.pendraken.co.uk/ARL12-p2701/#.UAhqP2FfFP0)
ii) further Anglo-Saxons. For these, I was wondering about how the Norse range might fit my existing chaps. Does anyone have any pictures of the Norse berserkers (NO5)?
Thanks

Justify to the wife? Ah, those modern marriages. L-)
It used to be the other way round, you know. Still is for some of us, who honour our traditions. 8)
Cheers,
Aart
Aart, at this stage, I don't even have a debit card... :(
Still wont stop me buying up some Norse if I can see what the berserkers look like though. ;)
Can anyone advise what the chaps in the Norse command pack is holding. I see two spearmen, a horn blower, a chap with a sword and someone else. Does he have an axe? Is there a shield on his back?
I'm happy to say that my SAM-in-10mm project has reached 'a' complete stage. It may still grow, but I now feel I have a good range of figures to get some fine gaming in.

Looking forward to seeing these on-table... 8)

Okay, question time:
1) Where is the priest in picture 1 from?
2) WHere does the young lady on horseback in picture three come from?
3) Picture 3 again, Boar standard is in which range?
Whoa !!
Those are particularly spiffy !! :-bd =D>

To answer question 2, best check the blog as she's not Pendraken.
The boar standard is stolen from a Magister Militum Irish standard bearer.
